The Passage of Time

In just 60 minutes 2012 will be history.  My life seems to be on fast forward with no pause or stop button.  In 8 days it will be 10 months since Bill passed away and tomorrow I'll have to say that Bill died last year.  In 2 short months it will be one year.  It bothers me that time has passed so quickly.

We seem to have gradually moved into a new "normal" without Bill.  Life goes on, doesn't it?  Jess doesn't talk about him as much as she used to, but she has been watching more home videos since Christmas and especially the ones featuring alot of Bill.  Even though he's not here, we still see him, hear him talk and laugh.  I guess it brings her alot of comfort to see her daddy on tv.

I wonder what 2013 has in store for us.  The past 3 years have been very difficult and I sure hope this year is much, much better.  If it isn't, there's one thing I'm sure of ... Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  He is faithful and I can trust Him in taking care of us and guiding us each day.  He gives me great joy.  Without my Jesus, I would be totally lost.  I'm glad one of His promises is that "I will never leave you or forsake you."

I counted on Bill for alot of things, and he was always there for me when he could.  My Jesus will always be with me and will always take care of me.  That's a fact.  Praise His Holy Name!

May your New Year be filled with daily miracles from God and eyes to see all that He does for us!  Happy New Year.

Just Another Day

We slept late, went to Dimitri's for breakfast, then I spent the rest of the day doing computer work and odds and ends again.  And, the day is almost over.  I don't know where it went because I still have more to do. Chris and Sean came over for a couple hours and visited this afternoon.  Jess has had another good day.  Jon finished up 3-days in a row.

Very Productive Day

There really isn't much to tell today.  I worked all day doing this and that and I'm very pleased with all that I've accomplished.  Jess and I took a break and went to the post office and then to McDonald's drive thru for lunch.  Jon worked.

No More Shopping For The Rest Of The Year!

I am done with after Christmas sales shopping.  I have saved ALOT of money, but the lines in the stores and the parking lots are getting on my nerves.  Not to mention the fact that Jess, Rachel and I left at 9:30 this morning for a special Tim Horton's breakfast, and I just got home to stay a little while ago.

From Tim Horton's we went to Walmart, Walgreen's, Meijer's, Subway for lunch, the post office and home to unload groceries and drop off the girls.  Then I went to Kohl's, Michael's and Debby's Dollar.  Also the post office because the first time there were way too many people in line to wait to mail a package.

Home - put away all, had a small snack, sat down for a bit then left to meet Di, Randie, Denise and Caity for dinner at Ike's.  It was nice getting together with Denise and Caity.  We sat and talked for quite a bit.

I'm more than ready to go to bed in a few minutes.  Thankfully, I am not going anywhere for the next 2 days that I know of.

Fun In The Snow

Jessie was beside herself this morning, wanting to go outside and play in the snow.  First we had to clear out the driveway so Rachel could get in and we could get out.  Unfortunately, the snow blower kept clogging up so Jon shoveled everything.

When he finished he invited me to join him for lunch and to go to several stores.  That was very nice.  We went to Garden for lunch, then Walgreens, Kohl's, Michael's, Meijer's for gas then the bank and post office.

When we got back I bundled up both girls and they spent over an hour playing in the backyard.  If Jake had been here, he would have been making dog snow angels - NOT Memphis.  He's not into snow.  He only wanted to walk where it had been shoveled.  Give me a break.  This dog just doesn't know how to play.  But, I guess that's what a service dog is supposed to do - work and no play.

Jon gave me a Food Saver for Christmas and I am having a great time sealing stuff.  This will save alot of money.  I can get items on sale, separate it, then vacuum and seal for months of freshness.  Maybe now I can buy some bread, freeze 3/4 of it and have fresh bread each day.  One loaf of bread goes bad before we eat it.

Today was a very good day.

The Day After Christmas

I decided not to set my alarm and just get up when I couldn't stand it in bed anymore.  I made it to 10:30!!!  Jess was quietly playing on her iPad and Jon and Jacob were on the XBox again.  How nice it felt to sleep in.  When I went downstairs, I was pleasantly surprised that Jon had already started the wash and was on his second load.  I'll have to sleep in more often!

I finished up the wash while Jon and Jacob again spent the entire day on the XBox.  They did take a short break and go to lunch and the post office.  Jess occupied herself with her iPad and Apples to Apples cards while watching new DVD's.  I watched two with her:  An Avonlea Christmas, and Mandie and the Forgotten Christmas.  I enjoyed both.  (This makes 4 movies in 2 days.  I think it's a record for me!)

I didn't do much else.  Straightened up a bit.  It was a nice, restful day.  And, I didn't even feel guilty for not doing much.

We called up north and talked to Grandma Sutton to wish her a Merry Christmas.  (We called last night but she was already in bed!)  She said she was doing "Great!"  I know she must have had a good Christmas.  Her granddaughters, Tammy and Susan, drove up from Georgia and their whole family was together.  I don't think she's spent Christmas with all of them in many, many years.

Christmas Day

We did something Christmas morning that I have NEVER done before in my entire life - we went out to breakfast!  Jess and I went to the Garden and gave our waitress friend, Heather, her Christmas present.  Julie also met us, along with JoAnne!  Four of us.  It was pretty neat.  We all ordered favorite foods and enjoyed it along with the company.

JoAnne went home to prepare for her family's dinner and Julie came back for the day.  We watched a couple DVD's:  "Brave" and "Calendar Girls".  Diane and Randie came at 6:00 and we had dinner.  When Jon got home at 8:00 he ate then we spent time opening our gifts.  Jess went to bed - overtired for sure - and Di and Randi stayed and we talked.  In all, a very nice Christmas Day.

Christmas Morning

Jess slept til 8:00 on Christmas morning, which is very good.  Nothing was going to keep her from getting downstairs to her stocking, though, because she knew Santa was coming back to eat her milk and cookies and fill her stocking! She was one excited girl - again!

Santa's Visit On Christmas Eve

Here are a few pictures that Jon took of Jessie's Christmas Eve visitor - Santa!

She kept hiding behind me but eventually gave Santa a hug but then retreated to a chair.  Santa had to come to her.

I do believe she was in shock.

Christmas Eve

We began our Christmas Eve morning with a brunch with Julie, Kylee and Lynzee at noon.  We then exchanged presents before they had to go to their next stop.

After the girls left, I explained to Jessie - again - how this year is different because Jon has to work tomorrow.  I told her we would open all our presents now, and not have any in the morning.  Except for her stocking, which Santa comes and fills while we sleep.

Jessie has been very quiet and very good today.  If any of you have been praying, THANKS!  It made for a very nice day.  She was so excited to have her "ten presents".  It doesn't matter if items come from the dollar store - she likes alot, as you can see from the picture.  And very appreciative, saying Thank You many times.

After we opened our presents, Jacob came over and they were in the living room playing xbox again.  They both sure like to play those games.  I'm glad Jon has such a nice friend as Jacob.

I made a crock pot beef roast for our special Christmas dinner today.  We don't eat beef very often and it was yummy.

My Aunt Joyce called to wish me a "Merry Christmas."  I haven't seen her in quite awhile.  It was nice to talk to her.

(I need to figure out how to get these pictures lined up properly so I don't waste so much space.  Maybe when I have more time I'll try working on it.)

Around 8:30 p.m. the doorbell rang, and it was for Jessie!  Santa Claus came and brought her some presents.  That was so nice of Santa to make her Christmas even more special.  Poor kid, though, she was in shock.  She didn't know quite what to do.  It was pretty funny.

Jon got some good pictures, we sent them to my e-mail and they didn't show up, so I'll have to post them tomorrow.

Until then, Merry Christmas Eve! It was a great day for us.

Santa Comin'? Santa Comin'?

That's all we've heard today.  It gets a bit annoying, I must admit.  Jessie is beside herself about Christmas.  I try to ignore most of it but sometimes I get a bit loud in telling her to be quiet and she gets even louder.

Since Jon has the weekend off, I was able to go to the second church service after he went to the first.  I was really looking forward to going and wasn't disappointed with the time spent worshipping and listening to God's message.  I was very glad that I didn't have to sit alone - my friend Andrea and her husband, Bruce, sat with me.

JoAnne came for dinner then we exchanged presents.  My friend, Sherry, from Georgia, called to wish me a Merry Christmas.  Diane and Randie came - just to visit.  That was sooooo nice.  They even brought a squash/pumpkin pie.  We had a fun time talking for several hours.  When they left I ordered pizza and salad for us then JoAnne and I watched a DVD: "Did You Hear About The Morgans?"  Jess is finally quieted down a bit and is in bed looking a FB friend pictures.  She does this each night before going to sleep.  I sure hope tomorrow is a better day for her.

Christmas Lunch Date

Today I took Jon out for a special Christmas lunch.  Bill and I always tried to go out for lunch before or after Christmas as a special outing, so I decided to keep that tradition and take my son.  (I would have loved to take Jess, too, but I sadly knew that wouldn't work.)  We went to Bahama Breeze, a place Jon has never been to.  It was a very special lunch complete with appetizer, meal and we shared a piece of cheese cake.  Yum.  And, I had been given gift certificates for my birthday and our bill came to $5.00.  Now that's what I call a great lunch.

When we got home Jane, Rachel and Jessie had gone out to lunch.  I did a couple loads of wash and Jon went to the show to see The Hobbit - again.  When Jess got back she was so nasty and loud and crabby that I let Rachel go home early and made her take a nap.  She slept almost 2 hours on the couch.  She was much better when she got up, thankfully.  She's not been very nice lately and I don't know if she doesn't feel well, although she has no outward signs of illness.  Or, is it still grieving for her dad and Grandmas?  Or is it just the anticipation of Christmas.  I hope she improves after Christams, that's for sure.

Wraping Presents

Debbie took Jess out to breakfast then to a couple of stores to give me a few hours to wrap Jessie and Jon's presents.  That really helped me alot, plus Jess had a great time.

They go to the same restaurant every Friday and Jess has made friends with an older gentleman, who is also there every Friday morning.  He gave her a Christmas card and a box of cookies today.  Our special waitress, Heather, also gave Jess a bag full of Christmas presents.  When she got home there were presents from Dorene and Bob and then we had Christmas with Debbie before she left.  So, Jess had "ten presents" today, that's for sure.  She was happy.

A Rice Krispies Christmas House

Tuesday when Rachel was here with Jessie she brought a Rice Krispies Christmas House to make and decorate.  I'm thankful Rachel took pictures to share with you - and ME.

That's one thing I really appreciate.  Pictures of my kids doing stuff.  As you can see, she enjoyed herself.

Today Jess and I went and got our hair cut then had an early lunch at Wendy's.  Post Office before Meijer's, which was packed and when we came out it was pouring rain.  Blah!

Chris came for dinner tonight.  I made the only casserole Jessie will eat, as she likes her food separate.  A cheesy chicken and rice casserole.

That's about it for today.

Wednesday

I went to the gym and walked in the lazy river for a half hour with water weights then sat in the hot tub for 15 minutes.  That felt good.  Debbie brought Jess over later and they played in the pool for awhile.  I had lunch with my friend, Chris J., then came home and worked on organizing scrapbook pictures.  I need to wrap presents, but I have to have someone occupy Jessie the entire time.  Jon spent the day with Jacob and had a great time.

It's getting harder for me as the days get closer to Christmas.  I'm not sure why, other than I am lonely for my Willie.  This Christmas, so far, has been much better than the past two.  Those Christmas' were not good.  Being with 2 people who were dying was terrible.  In 2010, I knew that it was going to be my mom's last Christmas, and probably Bill's.  Mom died 3 months later.  Bill made it to last year's Christmas, but it was not a happy time.  We all knew that it definitely was going to be his last holiday season. He couldn't eat anything, and what do you buy someone who can't go out and is dying?  Plus he had begun to withdraw from us, which is normal, but difficult.  Definitely alot harder than this year.  For me, anyway.  I just miss his presence.

I have much to be grateful for, though.  God has been faithful to me in every way and has taken care of me as His word says.  He's never failed me and He can't.  He is worthy of all praise and honor.

Walter P. Chrysler Museum

Another Christmas outing.  JoAnne and I toured the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, a 3-story, 55,000 sq. ft. museum in Auburn Hills.  If you'd like to visit, hurry.  It's closing at the end of this year.  That's a shame, because it was a really nice museum - very elegant.

There were more than 65 antique, custom and concept cars and 100 years of automotive history on display.  Not to mention the beautiful period dresses and Christmas trees.

The second of my pictures is a rotating tower in the atrium with changing car displays.  That was pretty neat, although it wasn't rotating.

I especially liked the Christmas trees and information about each era.  There were some ornaments on display that are on my tree!  I've never been one to be too impressed with cars, but I did enjoy the visit.  I remember a car my parents had purchased - a Dodge DeSoto that had push buttons for P R N D.  Saw a car there with push buttons, too.  Also a couple rumble seat cars.

Mr. and Mrs. White, our neighbors in Detroit, owned a rumble seat car and used to take us kids on rides.  Those were fun times.

Jon had a good day with Jacob, who is home from school.  Jessie spent the day with Rachel and they made a rice krispies Christmas house.  We had some for dinner and she did a good job.

Whenever I add pictures to my blog, it throws off my spacing for writing.  Sorry if it's distracting.  It's very annoying for me!

Christmas Cards

My goal was to begin and end my Christmas cards this week.  I started this afternoon but got so depressed I decided I wasn't able to send Christmas greetings this year.  Sounds stupid, doesn't it?  I think I got about 7 done for out of state friends/family and quit.  So, when you don't hear from me this year via a Christmas card, don't worry.  Maybe next year I will be able to send them to you.

Debbie took today off so Jess and I did something different this morning.  We went out to breakfast rather than lunch for Girls Day Out. We were joined by our friend, Dorene.  Then we did quite a bit of "running around" before we got back home.  Jess had speech at 3:30 and I sat down for a change and finished a Christmas book.

Santa's Workshop

This was the second day that Jess and I have spent almost the entire day upstairs.  After breakfast we began wrapping presents.  Jessie did all of hers, with a little help from Momma Elf.  She had a fun time and she laughed alot.  She enjoys presents - whether she gives them or receives.

We took a 15-minute break and drove to McDonald's for a drive thru lunch that we ate at home then back upstairs again.  While she occupied herself all day, I wrapped more presents.  I only have Jon and Jessie's left to wrap.  That is pretty good since there's a week til Christmas.

A Good Saturday

I am very pleased with everything that I've done today.  Alot of work.  Alot of paperwork.  My knee isn't real happy tonight, but I'm grateful for the stair chair.  I've been up and down so many times today.  Jess and I spent the entire afternoon and evening upstairs.  Rachel came and spent the late morning and early afternoon with Jess downstairs.  The 3 of us went to the post office, bank and Subway for lunch.  I was going to go to church, but Jessie hasn't been in the best of temperments lately, and I just didn't want to deal with it at church.  So we stayed home, much to her delight.

A Canterbury Village Outing

Debbie, Jess, JoAnne and I had breakfast at Tim Horton's then drove to Canterbury Village to shop at the Always Christmas Store, which is now an outlet store.  That was news to me but great since almost everything in the store was on sale. We could have shopped longer but we were on a time schecule.

Unfortunately, Jessie was very upset with having to go up the ramp to get in the store, even though we pushed her in the wheelchair.  She has been there numerous times so I didn't think it would be a big deal.  It was.  Thankfully, I found a ground-level door we were able to use to leave.

Since Debbie had never been there, we ate lunch at the castle.  Jess, JoAnne and I had a chicken buffet and Debbie had a pretzel sandwich and homemade chips.  It was very nice.  Not many people in the restaurant, and no kids.  That's always a plus.

I think the next time I go to the Village, I'll leave Jess home and plan to spend the entire day there and go in each store.  We never made it to any other stores.

I was supposed to go out tonight but changed my plans and stayed home.  Rachel came and took care of Jessie while I went upstairs and did paperwork and Christmas stuff.  I began wrapping presents.

Excuse Me, Has Anyone Noticed The Time?

When we got Memphis, his previous owner told us that he could tell time and that he was used to eating at 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  I've curbed his annoying moaning at 8:00 and he gets fed when I get up.  If it's around that time, he's very happy.

Now, 4:00 is tricky. Since the time change he's been coming over to one of us, staring at us starting around 3:00 p.m.  We have to continually tell him to get lost for another hour.  It's very annoying.  Anyway, today we were all busy at 4:00 doing stuff around the house and I happened to look to see where Memphis was.  He was quietly sitting next to his bowls, staring at them with sad eyes, and probably thinking: Has anyone noticed the time?  IT'S 4:00!!!!!  That was so funny.

I had a doctor's appointment today and went Christmas shopping afterwards.  I think I'm done.  When I got home, Jon had dusted, vacuumed, cleaned the bathroom and worked a couple hours in the basement.  What a special gift he gave me today, since I hosted our Home Group tonight.  He also cut up cheese, sausage and put out the desserts.  Thank you so much, Jon!  You are a wonderful son and a great host.

A Different Day

I overslept, had a headache and decided not to go to my last Water Aerobics class this morning.  So I planned on doing paperwork.  Again.  Instead I received a call from a good friend out of state and talked to her for quite awhile.  Then another friend called and asked if I wanted to go to Costco and out to lunch.  So, I did.  The paperwork is still on the desk.  That will be tomorrow's project before a doctor's appointment.  I had Stephen Ministry tonight and I just wasn't in the frame of mind to be there.  I stuck it out, but my mind wasn't there.  An odd day.

Debbie and Jessie went to the pool and spent about an hour playing there.  Jessie has been quite happy lately.  She enjoys her outings with Debbie.

I have to brag - my kids are doing very well on becoming healthy.  Jess lost 3.8 pounds this past week and Jon 4 #.  That makes Jon's total at 28.6.  Way to go, Jon - and Jess!  You've left your mother in the dust.  I'm only at 14#.  Oh, well.

Happy (Belated) Birthday, Mr. Lathers

I had the opportunity to have lunch with about 45 former co-workers from Henry Ford II High School at Marcus Grill in honor of the principal's 80-something birthday.  I worked for Mr. Lathers for 8 years as his secretary.  Now, we are talking a very long time ago ... 1976 - 1984.  Mr. Lathers was also my high school principal, as I graduated from Utica High School in 1970.  It was a surprise for Mr. Lathers and his wife, Mary.  I'm glad that we were given name tags, as the women all looked the same, just older.  Some of the men - WELL?  Let's just say I was glad for the name tags.  I haven't been hugged as much as I was today since Bill's funeral.  It was a really nice time.

Unfortunately, I had to leave early for an endocrinologist appointment in Rochester.  I had called to see if I could come late or reschedule.  There were no cancellations for the late afternoon, and her next appointment was in April!  Give me a break.  I went today.

Anyway, the good news is that in the last 6 months my blood sugar went down from 112 to 104 and 6.3 to 5.9.  Those of you who know about blood counts will understand the significance of these numbers.  All I need to know is that it has gotten better.  My blood pressure was excellent (124/74) and I've definitely lost weight.  Good job, Nan!

The Start To A Busy Week

Jon and I did some shopping this morning before Debbie left and I took Jess to McDonald's drive thru for our girls day out picnic in the van.  I wrapped a couple presents, did 3 loads of wash, made the kids dinner then went to a Christmas Party for another group of girlfriends.  This group is called
"The Glory Girls".  We've had this name for so many years I can't remember how we got named.  Anyway, I did take a picture but forgot to ask if it was OK to put it on my blog.  Oh, well.  Maybe next time.  I'm thankful for friends.

Stephen Ministry Christmas Party

Since I'm the one usually taking all the pictures, I don't get my picture taken often.  Tonight I went to church for the annual Stephen Ministry Christmas Party.  I had Jon take my picture when I got home, and I thought I'd share it with you and wish you an early "MERRY CHRISTMAS".

It was a very nice day.  Jon has the weekend off so he went to first church service and I went to the second.  We had taco salads for lunch when I got home and relaxed a bit before I had to get ready to go party.  Jon made dinner for the two of them.  After dinner we had a white elephant exchange, which was so much fun.  I ended up with a (Hallmark) talking bathroom snowman holding a plunger.

Lexington Christmas Horse Parade

We had an "Old Girls Day Out" day.  Joanne, Chris, Me, Diane and Randie (as pictured) went to the 2nd Annual Lexington Old Fashioned Christmas Horse Parade in Lexington, MI.  (I think Lexington is about 65 miles or so from here.)  Diane was looking on the internet for things to do in Michigan in December and this is our first outing.  It was a cute half-hour long parade with 150 horses.  We also shopped some of the stores along the street before the parade.

Also before the parade we met at Cheap Charlie's in Port Huron for lunch.  After the parade and we separated, Chris, JoAnne and I went and did more shopping: FCS and an AVON store.  We ate dinner at the Cracker Barrell then shopped there, of course.  One of my favorite places to shop.  Good thing there aren't many around where we live.  JoAnne and I left this morning at 10:10 a.m. and we arrived back here at 7:30 p.m.  A long, but very nice day.

Rachel came to be with Jessie and she had another great day with her.  Jane came and took them out to lunch and shopping.  Jessie also painted a small nativity set.  She loves to paint, color and make things.  She's our little artist.  Jon had today off and went to the show and out to breakfast then spent the rest of the day around home.

Oh, yah, by the way.  Before I left home I was walking the stair chair down the stairs and my left foot slipped on the step and I fell flat on my back and slid down the rest of the 5 stairs.  Of course everything hurts tonight, as it did all day long.  I'll see if I'm able to move in the morning.  I'm sure you're wondering why I was walking the chair down.  I'm trying to do as many stairs as I possibly can to keep up strength in my legs.  Although, since the chair has only one speed - very slow - I should have rode it down, since not much strength is needed for as slow as it goes!

Breakfast Out Day

Today I joined Debbie, Jess and Kelly for breakfast, for our annual once-a-month face-to-face meeting.  We all had a nice time, especially Jess who got her favorite breakfast.  From there I went to a Hallmark store and Dollar Tree in Romeo.  Jess and Debbie went shopping at Target.  I then drove down to Ken's Kitchen for lunch with JoAnne.  I haven't been there in years!  For the rest of the day we shopped at various places together.  She also joined Jess and I for dinner and then we watched a movie.  It was nice for me to sit down and do nothing for a change. Jon worked.  The End.

Waiting In Lines

Since Bible Study is over til January, I took advantage of a "day off" and went shopping and out to lunch with my friend, Nancy.  We had a nice visit at Applebees.  I went to the post office, bank, medical supply store, Salvation Army, Family Christian Stores, Kohl's (of course!) and Michael's.  I only went to half the stores on my list.  I knew what I needed in each store and it should have been an easy in-and-out shopping experience.  Not.  At FCS I was in line for 20 minutes.  Kohl's wasn't too bad, but I've decided that I will have to cut down my expectations of shopping.  Hall Road and Schoenherr were packed again.  At least the weather was nice!

Debbie and Jess went shopping at Meijer's.  Jess had difficulty with some crabby kids today.  Otherwise, her day was good.  Jon worked.  I'm ready to go to bed and I don't usually go until midnight.  I think I'm still tired from water aerobics yesterday.

Kitchen Christmas Tree

I've always wanted a Christmas tree in my kitchen decorated with ornaments of food, utensils, etc.  I do have one this year.  It's small, but cute.  I put my mom's old kitchen utensils on it and so far I have a pickle ornament and a chocolate covered strawberry ornament.  Little blue bulbs and red bows complete the tree.

Below the tree is my mom's nativity set she used to have in her living room.  Jon's precious moments nativity set is under the tree.

Our regular water aerobics teacher was back today and made up for last week's dull session.  I felt like I had two one-hour sessions rolled into one.  I hurt tonight.  She really pushed us.  After class I shopped for a few things I like at Kroger's, got gas, went to the post office, then spent the rest of the day doing paperwork.  You can now see the top of my desk, and I hope to finish tomorrow.

A Christmas Get Together

All Rachel's and my hard work paid off.  My house was finally clean, the decorations are all done (I gave up on the tree last night at 12:30 a.m.; finished it today) and my mini dinner party went well.  Thanks to my mom's Christmas tea pot I inherited, Bill and Jon's presents last year and my thrifty Kohl's shopping this year, I have a new holiday china set for 8.  I really like it.

Four ladies from my Bible Study's small group came for dinner.  It was nice chatting and getting to know one another better.  I hated to see the evening end.

So, my house is clean.  I have a new set of china.  I'd love to host another dinner party, so if you need a place to have a small get-together, give me a call!  Do it quick, though, before the house gets dirty again.

On a crappy note, Jon has to work Christmas Day!  They asked each nurse what one holiday they would be willing to work.  He said either Thanksgiving or New Year's.  They scheduled him for all three!  He complained, but they told him the schedule is firm.  I'm going to have to do some creative thinking for Christmas Day for Jessie.  We always open our presents on Christmas morning.  Not having my mom, Bill's mom, Bill AND Jon here for Christmas is going to be very different.  I need a new tradition - a new plan.  It will also be very hard for Jon.  Let's pray that someone would offer to take his Christmas shift for him.  That would be a miracle, that's for sure.  But, God is in the miracle business.

Blood Work

I'm anxious to see how the blood work comes out that was taken from me this morning since I began doing water arobics, weights and portion control eating with an emphasis on more fruits and vegetables.  I have an appointment next Tuesday and one on Thursday, so we'll see.

Thanks to Rachel, I have a very clean downstairs.  She came after Jess and I had girls lunch out at Subway and did all the cleaning that I can't do.  She did a great job.  Now, the only thing left to do is the tree.  I'm going to work on it tonight until it's done.  I don't care what time it'll be.  I MUST get it done.

She'll have to come again and do the upstairs.  Until then, no one goes above stairs!  My room is a disaster.  Once the ornament boxes go in the closet I'll be able to get the rest of the stuff put away.  I also plan on doing paperwork tomorrow, as my desk is very scary.

Saturday and Sunday

I couldn't get on the internet last night.  It kept shutting down, thus, no post.  So, here's yesterday's:  Rachel came and spent several hours with Jessie and Jane came and took them out to lunch.  She had a great day.  I went to Shepherds Gate Lutheran Ladies Christmas Event at Cherry Creek.  It was very, very nice.  There had to be over 200 women in attendance.  When I left I shopped a bit before I got home.  Did more decorating then Jess and I went to church.  She did well.  I am so glad because then I can get to church each week.  Two Saturday nights - two Sundays.

Today I spent the morning getting the house presentable for Chris and Gayle to come and scrapbook.  Chris and I worked on Lois' prayer letter then she helped me put pictures in Jessie's photo album and mine.  Jess and Chris took a nap and Gayle and I did some scrapbooking.  I think everyone had a nice afternoon.  I know I did.  That's it for scrapbooking until January.

My Ducts Are Clean

Safety King came today and cleaned out my air ducts.  I now have a new furnace and very clean ducts.  We're good to go for many years.  It took about 4 hours and I'm thankful that Debbie was able to take Jess to her house after their breakfast out.

Jon and I went out to lunch and some running around to a couple stores before Debbie had to leave.  I'm still trying to get my Christmas decorations done.  Not having them completed at this time of the year is very frustrating to me.  I want to be able to sit down and enjoy the decorations and have a few people over for the holidays.  I want to read books and watch DVD's.  I want to enjoy my Christmas.

A Busy Day

Jessie needed the van today (Debbie had her truck) so Jon drove me to Bible Study.  Unfortunately, it was the last one in this book series.  It was a really great Bible Study and I look forward to our next one beginning the middle of January.  To complete our study we had a pot luck luncheon.  I'm glad, though, that I don't HAVE to do special reading during the holidays.

When I got home, Jon and I made a Salvation Army run and then I had computer work to do for a friend.  I left at 5:00 p.m. and went to Office Depot to get stuff printed, then I had just enough time to grab a quick sandwich before I went to my Down Syndrome Book Club.  Tonight was our last night, too, and we finished the book.  We won't do another one until next summer.  Again, I'm glad I don't HAVE this reading to do over the holidays.

It's late and I still have paperwork to do so I can go to the bank in the morning.

A Day Filled With Emotion

In 1978 I had a dream.  I have never forgotten this dream and never will.  I had almost the same one last night and woke this morning to such heartache that I have cried all day.  I can not share it with you as it is too raw and most of you will think I was nuts anyway.  I've cried today like I cried when Bill was first diagnosed.  I just couldn't stop crying.  The sobbing kind, or should I say the slobbery kind, as I used many kleenexes.

I managed to go to water aerobics by blocking my mind to everything except the class.  Debbie and Jessie went and spent time swimming while I was in class.  Unfortunately, our regular teacher was sick and we had a fill-in who just didn't know much about water aerobics.  It was almost a waste of my time.  Most of the women just ended up doing what they wanted to do.

When I got home I was still very emotional, although I didn't want Jessie to know so I went upstairs to my bedroom.  I prayed.  I cried.  I took a nap.  I went to Stephen Ministry tonight and cried there, too, although for different reasons.  Two people who attend our church died unexpectedly.  One last night, one today.  A very-long-time member of the church's husband has been diagnosed with cancer in the lungs and brain.  This man (age 75) has almost never been to church and very anti-Christian.  Last night Pastor Garry talked with him and he said he wanted to go to Heaven to see his mom and dad.  He asked Jesus into his heart last night, and knows he will see them soon.  Please pray for this family, as they are going out of state for him to say good bye to his siblings in the next few days.  I think when he does get to Heaven and Bill sees him, since he's known him for years, Bill's jaw will drop in surprise.  I can almost see that reunion.  Thank you, Jesus!

There is so much heartache where ever you turn.  Every one has something that they are burdened with.  Let's remember one another in prayer for what ever we are dealing with.  God knows our burdens and has promised to "hold our hand" and walk us through our trials.  I, for one, am grateful for His presence in my life.  Praise His Holy Name!

Not Too Cold For Swingin'

But I'm sure it was for Debbie who sat in the swing watching Jessie several times today in her hammock swing.  At one point Jess put her gloves on then took them off.  She's making her tired noises, so I hope she goes to sleep early.  I could use a few extra minutes of quiet time tonight.

I put up a few more ornaments on the tree but I'm no where near being close to being done.  One ornament box is still completely full.  I might have put on 20 today.  Maybe tomorrow after water aerobics.

Still Decorating

I'm not putting up alot of decorations this year but I just can't get in the mood.  I should have finished decorating a week before Thanksgiving, but I'm not.  I began going through the Christmas closet again after Jess and I went to Wendy's for our Girls Day Out lunch.  I know that my stair chair isn't meant to be a "pack mule", but as you can see from the picture, it sure came in handy!  It saved me many trips up and downstairs.

Jon and I went and purchased a grave blanket from my favorite florist (Mandel's Greenhouse) and took it to the cemetery.  That was hard for both of us.

I remember asking Bill one night how he lived knowing he was dying.  He shrugged his shoulders and said, "One day at a time."  Life without Bill - well, I guess I could say the same thing: "One day at a time."

Christmas Hymn Sing

This is Jon's weekend off so he went to first service at church and I went to the second.  Came home and had some homemade chicken soup, read a few pages in a book, took a quick nap and visited with Chris for about an hour.  Then Chris, Jon, Diane, Randie and I went to Mr. B's for dinner before we went to church for their annual Christmas Hymn Sing.  It was very nice.  I told Diane that I had never been to one, only Chris corrected me and said that she went with Bill and I last year.  I looked back at my Christmas Memories Book and sure enough, she was right.  So much for my memory.  Rachel came and stayed with Jessie and they both had a good time.  I am so glad that it has worked out for Jessie's best friend to be her aide.  Rachel's doing a good job.

I Did Too Much - Again

I probably wouldn't have done so much if Jessie wasn't so willing and determined to help me all day.  First we had to put away all the Harvest decorations.  She sat on my bed and helped me pack the boxes.  Every year I try to give stuff away for each season, but this closet is still stuffed.

Next we had to begin emptying the Christmas closet which is in my bedroom.  My stair chair helped  in carting alot of stuff downstairs and at least we can go to bed tonight.  We just have to be careful where we walk!

Then, she wanted to help me in the kitchen - loading the dishwasher and putting other dishes away.  Next we went in to the laundry room/office and put a couple loads of wash in.  I'm not quite sure why she wanted to help so much, but it was nice and she seemed to enjoy herself.

Jon had off and went to the show and saw "Red Dawn", which he said was awesome and he'll go back soon and see it again.  We had our "Thanksgiving Day Dinner" tonight with Jon.  He had a pheasant and Jess and I each had a Cornish Hen. That was fun. I had the Cornish Hen already on Jessie's plate before I called her to dinner and she jumped back and said, "Oh!" when she saw her plate.  That was just too funny.

Life of Pi

For years when I worked, the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving was the time I put up all the Christmas decorations.  Until one year Bill suggested I do it the week before and we could enjoy the 4-day weekend doing something.  So, that's what we've done for years.  We usually went out as a family and did stuff on Friday and Saturday - but NOT shopping, that's for sure!

However, this year most of the Harvest decorations are still in my bedroom waiting for their home in the closet for another year.  I do have 4 Christmas trees up, but only one is completed.  That's Jon's that is in the living room.  Jess keeps going by Harvest stuff downstairs and saying, "Halloween Done!" and putting the item in my chair basket to go upstairs.  I guess tomorrow's the day to put away the pumpkins and tackle the Christmas closet.  My bedroom will be a disaster for awhile.

Rachel, Jess and I went to Garden for breakfast, along with about 50 other people.  It was the busiest I have ever seen it, and there were only 2 waitresses!  I brought the girls home and then drove to Di and Randie's and we visited for awhile then left for the theatre and saw, "Life of Pi".  I highly recommend this movie.  I don't go very often to the show, but I would definitely go back and see this one all over again.  Maybe I'll go see it with Jon.  We watched it in 3D and it was awesome!

I have to share this with you ... Jess had hiccups when I got home.  I don't know why, as she rarely has them.  Anyway, she kept saying peanut butter.  I just stared at her wondering why she would want peanut butter (I have a short memory), until she went in the utensil drawer, got out a spoon and handed it to me.  THEN I remembered !!!!  When Bill got hiccups because of the chemo, when he could swallow, peanut butter was the ONLY thing that stopped them.  So, Jess wanted a teaspoon of peanut butter to stop her hiccups!  She is just something else, that girl of mine!

Happy Thanksgiving

Well, it sure was a different Thanksgiving.  Jon had to work so it was just Jess and me.  I bought a 9# roasting chicken from WalMart's the other day and we had that along with some potatoes, stuffing and green beans.  Jess also had peppers, pickles and tomatoes.  I had pickled beets and black olives.  Pumpkin ice cream pie completed our meal.

This morning when Jess got up these were her exact words:  "Turkey Day!  Turkey, big potatoes, green beans, bread, butter, pumpkin pie.  Turkey Day all done!  Santa comin'!  Ten presents!"   Oh, my, it is going to be a very long time til Christmas.  Jess watched the Macy's Parade and seemed to enjoy the big floats.

I never did get my Christmas tree decorated yet.  Jess keeps picking up Harvest decorations and telling me to put them away:  "Halloween Done!"  I'm usually all decorated for Christmas by now.  Oh, well, I'll get it done this week.

I hope you-all had a very nice Thanksgiving.  We have MANY things to be thankful for, and I spent the day praising God for his blessings.

Oh, by the way, in the picture above, Jessie is blowing everyone a KISS.  MMMMaw!

Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie

There are some things that, for tradition's sake, you absolutely MUST do, no matter what.  One of them is having Grandma Sutton's Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie for the holidays.  Late this afternoon before Rachel left for the day, Jess helped make the dessert.  It is her favorite, and she MUST have it, or it won't be Thanksgiving or Christmas!  She did a great job.

I had my water aerobics class this morning and Rachel and Jessie went along.  Rachel watched Jess while I exercised then we went to McDonald's for a very light lunch, since we had a very light breakfast.  There were very few women in the class today - just the right amount.  Last week it was packed, and it was hard not to slug someone!

Jon will be working tomorrow.  He asked for it off, but no go.  I hope he has Chrsitmas off.  Jess and I will be having a quiet day together.

Made-To-Crave Day

Even though Debbie and her family are in California for the week, Chris K. and I decided to still have our Tuesday meeting.  Rather than here, we went out to breakfast!  What could be nicer than discussing a book on being successful in losing weight than eating out!

Rachel was with Jess all day and they read for several hours plus did some art work.  Apples 2 Apples was a given for quite awhile, too.

Jon and I went to WalMart in the afternoon.  I bought a big chicken to fix on Thursday for Jess and I since Jon will be working.  It will be a quiet day.

Visiting

Jess and I had a late start this morning which was ok with me.  After breakfast we got ready for the day and came downstairs.  I did a couple loads of wash, something I don't like to do on Sunday's, but I had no jeans to wear.  That would make it important.

In the late afternoon Diane and Randie and Chris came and visited.  Di and Randie brought had made a squash pie and I really wasn't sure if I would even want to try it.  I do like squash, but pie?  Well, much to my surprise, it was delicious!

Girl's Day Out - For 6 Hours!

Yup, that's how long Jess and I were out today.  It began at the dentist for her 6-month check up.  No cavaties again, for which I am VERY grateful.  I saw an "old" friend that I havent' seen in about 12 years - her daughters she had with her I didn't even know she had!  It was nice catching up.  Next we had lunch at the Country Inn.  I had raisin bread french toast and it was delicious!  Jess had her usual.

From there we went to:  Partridge Creek's Apple Store, Crocs store, Brookstone, Game Store, and the Dog Store.  Then we had a snack wrap at Wendy's for lunch before we went to Bed Bath and Beyond.  Dollar Store and Post Office finished the day, which just about did me in.  BUT, Jess had a great time.  Me, too.

A Better Day For Me

Jon worked and Rachel came to be with Jessie.  They had a great time together swinging outside in the hammock, playing apples to apples, and more.  My friend, Dorene, and I had a girlfriend day.  What do girlfriends to when they go out?  They go out to eat and shop, and that's what we did.  It was a very nice day.  Not to mention a beautiful weather day.  Perfect winter weather for me.

Jess and I went to church tonight, and I am thrilled that she did so well.  There was a crying baby and a fussy toddler, but she still did well.  This allows me to go to church each week, and I'm very happy about that.  Thank you, Jesus!

Jessie's Day Out

It began with her usual breakfast out at the Garden, then they came home for a little while before Debbie took Jess to the Gym to go in the pool.  Even though there were a few kids there, she did very well.  She also went outside swinging - something she's done every day this week, even when it was in the 30's.

I did a little paperwork, went to the post office, Kohl's and Meijer's.  I feel like I did when Bill first passed away, and I don't like it.  My mind is gone on vacation.  I park the car and can't find it.  I wander aimlessly down store aisles and can't remember what I'm looking for.  I needed to get out of the house today by myself but as soon as I got into a store, I wanted to leave right away.

Jon went to see the new movie, "Lincoln", which he said was very good.  He's doing so good on Weight Watchers.  He's lost over 20 pounds since he began less than 3 months ago.  He uses the WW app on his iPhone and keeps track of everything that goes in his mouth.  Way to go, Jon!  I'm proud of you!

Where Does Each Day Go?

Today began at Bible Study with a quick lunch out afterwards with Andrea and Caroline.  Debbie and Jess went to the grocery store, Jon went out to breakfast then a store, Jess had speech at 1:00 p.m.and Dorene came at 1:30 p.m. to help me with a few things around my house.  Jon and I took a quick trip to Home Depot, we had dinner then I helped him decorate his Christmas tree in the living room.  It's 9:02 p.m. and I still have to do payroll.  Oh,well.  Tomorrow is another day.

Another Challenge For Jessie

I went to my water aerobics class this morning alone.  Last week Jess, Deb and I went but I figured that after yesterday, Jess needed to chill out a bit today.  And, I needed some alone time!  She was very tired and nodded off a couple times for Debbie.

It was time to get my hair done and my appointment was at 1:00 p.m.  When I got home I did a load of wash then Jon and I took Jess to the eye doctor.  A new one since I'm not impressed with our current/past optometrist.  Anyway, it took us about 10 minutes to get her in the chair.  No eye dilation for sure!  She's not crazy about getting new glasses - she wants to keep her current pair.  The change in her prescription is enough that when the new ones arrive I'll have to hide the old ones.

We met Chris for dinner in Romeo and that went well for a change.  The place was very busy, there were a couple kids there, but Jess did very well.  Thankfully, because I'm not sure I would have been able to handle a meltdown.  I'm right on the edge of one myself.

Jessie's No So Good Day

Or mine either, for that matter.  I overslept a half hour this morning which put us way behind for breakfast before a trip to the bank and gynocologist for Jessie.  So, for the first time in over 3 months, we had a value breakfast sandwich from McDonald's.  Which, by the way, was delicious.  Debbie went with us, too.

Jess was upset at the doctor's office because it was on the 4th floor, we had an elevator ride and a walkway to the office with windows from floor to ceiling.  The doctor was so patient with Jess and she did OK.  We left and drove to Chris K's house, as we were supposed to have our "Made To Crave" meeting.  I wasn't sure if going there would be good for Jess, as Chris has open stairs up to her porch, as well as a wooden ramp for their son who is in a wheelchair.  Jess does NOT to stairs.  I took a chance.

The ramp and front steps were out of the question, but we did manage to get her up 5 stairs in the garage up in to the house and thought we had it made.  She only needed a little encouragment.  Chris made us a special lunch and dessert, we enjoyed our book talk as well as prayer time.  Jessie seemed to enjoy herself, too, and played with a couple cats and her iPad.

UNTIL it was time to go home.  No amount of coercing or encouraging would get her down those few stairs.  I even gave her some break-through anti-anxiety medication.  She plunked herself down on the kitchen floor and wasn't going anywhere near any door.  She cried, she laughed.  We prayed for Jesus to help her not be afraid.  She hollered.  She fought.  We tried the front door.  We tried the wheelchair.  She kicked, screamed and she was NOT going down those stairs.  Chris even called her son to come help us and her husband also came home.  They tried to carry her - no way that was happening.  Have you ever tried moving a special needs person if they don't want to be moved?  Ain't gonna happen!

Finally, in tears, I told Chris to call 911 to see if they could help us.  While she was on the phone with them, Jess said "MYSELF!", rolled over on her stomach, crawled backwards out the front door and down the stairs.  One and a half hours from start to finish!

Poor thing, she kept saying, "Sorry, Mom!  Scared!  Sorry, Mom!  Scared!"  Then on the way home she threw up a bit, still saying "Sorry, Mom!"  It broke my heart.  She was so traumatized.  I'm sorry I tried, but we will never know if we don't try.

Something like this incident is so emotionally draining, not only for Jessie but for me.  This was the first time Debbie witnessed what could happen when Jess becomes tramatized over something.  I know she was as frustrated and upset as we were, too.  This makes us very limited in where we go and what we do as a family.  Thankfully, Jessie is much calmer tonight and seems Ok.  Me?  I'm just plain emotionally wiped out.

Girls Day Out All Afternoon

Jess and I had a great afternoon out for Girl's Day.  We ate lunch at Wendy's then shopped at Hobby Lobby, Family Christian Stores, Christmas Tree Shops then picked up a pizza and salad for dinner.  She had SO much fun seeing so much Christmas stuff that she hasn't stopped talking about Christmas, presents and Santa since we've been home.  I'm about ready to lose my mind!

A Nice Early Fall Day

That's sure what it felt like.  Jon went to first service and I went to second - without a coat.  The wind was a little nippy, but I held out.  No coat.  The 3 of us drove through McDonald's for a quick lunch we ate in Target's parking lot before we went into Home Depot to buy a Christmas tree for the living room for Jon.

While I was at church, Jon took Jess out in the back yard and began blowing leaves and cleaning up for the fall.  He did both the front and back yards and even cut down my flower garden.  It looks great.  I'm very glad that job is done for this year.  What leaves fall now can blow down the street or stay until spring.

Chris and Rox came later in the day for a project/scrapbooking afternoon.  Chris and I worked on scrapbooks and Rox brought some odds and ends to do that never got done at home.  I made chicken quesadillas for dinner with root beer floats for dessert.  In all it was a very nice day.

Date Day

Rachel came and spent the day with Jessie.  Jane came later in the day and took them out to lunch and a book store.  Jess had a great day with her two friends.

Jon and I went shopping along the Hall Road corridor, which was a big mistake.  The traffic was unbelievable.  Traffic was backed up on Schoenherr and Hall Road for as far as you could see.  We went to Hobby Lobby, looked at the number of people in each line, turned around and walked out of the store. The parking lot for Christmas Tree store was just as bad so we didn't even bother going in there!  Sam's Club was packed, but it's so huge it didn't seem too bad.  We did go to Family Bookstores, Kohl's and Michael's.  We also had lunch at Olive Garden.  A very nice day with my son. Profitable, too, as I got several Christmas gifts.

I like electrical appliances.  Strange but true.  Especially cheap ones.  I purchased a bite size pancake machine the other day for less than $10.00 and tonight we had pancakes for dinner.  They were fun to make, and Jess  ate them with her fingers and dipped them in the syrup.

Just Another Day

Nothing special.  Jess and Deb had breakfast out.  I swept floors and vacuumed.  Washed the kitchen floor and did a couple loads of wash.  Paperwork.  Took Jess and Deb around to a couple places in the afternoon then after dinner I went to a Thirty-One party.  Jon worked.  That's it.  I could elaborate, but it would be boring.

Is It Only Thursday?

Andrea picked me up for Bible Study today since Jessie needed the van for grocery shopping day.  Chris brought me home after we had lunch together.  I did a load of wash and rested a bit before Safety King came out and gave me an estimate on getting my air ducts cleaned out.  They've never been done and in sorry shape.  They'll be here at the end of the month.

Jon worked.  After Jess and Debbie went grocery shopping they made rice krispies treats.  Nothing else happened today that's worth noting I guess.  I'm still in a funk.  Even exercise didn't help yesterday.

Let's Go Swimmin!

Jess and I got up early, ate cheese wraps and water for breakfast in the van, picked up Debbie at 8:30 and went to the Gym.  While I had my water aerobics class, Debbie and Jessie played in the other pools.  We stayed a little while longer then came home.  I met Chris and Bill's cousin, Carol, for lunch in Romeo.  Joyce has flown south for the winter, so she won't meet with us til next spring.  After that I shopped a bit a Kohl's, came home and fixed dinner for the kids then went out to Ike's for dinner with the Down Syndrome Alumni Moms.  There were 11 of us and there was alot of laughter and fun.  Also, it's the first restaurant in a long time that I've been to where everyone went home with a box of food.  The food was good and alot of it.  That's always nice.  Now I have lunch for tomorrow.

This is Jessie's crabby week and if things don't change soon, I may have to leave home for awhile.  It's been a very long week of whining, screaming and general crabbiness.

Election Day

Well, there are a few perks to being 60 years old.  I voted with an absentee ballot last week just because I am 60.  Jon left the house at 7:10 a.m. to vote and returned home at 8:25.  He had voted AND went to breakfast.  He said they had a new system and the line went very fast, with 24 voting areas.

We had our "Made To Crave" meeting this morning then I did a bit of paperwork before I met my friend, Janet, for lunch.  We had a nice visit and hope to meet again next month.  She just retired this year from UCS so her days are "free".  I stopped at Vince and Joe's for some squash before I had a 3:00 doctor appointment.  Going to the doctor alone is one of the times I miss Bill.  I went with him, he went with me.  I missed him alot today traveling.  That empty passenger seat got to me today.  Oh, well.

We had chicken quesadillas for dinner.  I'm a sucker for (on sale/cheap) electrical appliances and a couple weeks ago I bought a quesadilla maker.  They were OK, but next time I need smaller wraps and more cheese to make it stick together.  They were good though.  No complaints from the kids.

A Busy Day

I need to learn to pace myself and rest during the day.  Tonight I'm exhausted and I wondered why earlier.  Well, let's see ... paperwork, cleaned the upstairs bathroom and put down winter rugs.  Did 3 loads of wash, folded them and they are ready to go upstairs.  Changed the downstairs bathroom shower curtain to a winter color.  Jess and I went to lunch at Tubby's (never eaten there before) then we went to Target for a few things and the post office before returning home.  I also cleaned and skinned 10 pounds of chicken quarters and baked them.  Then I flash froze them and now they're in the freezer for future meals.  Also cut up 5 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken thighs in strips and cooked them for salads or fajitas, and froze them, too.  Two sweet dumpling squashes are also cooked and in the freezer.  I'm ready for bed!

A Different Sunday

After a late breakfast Jess and I took a ride and we went to visit Jon at work.  Now she'll be able to picture in her mind where he works when he leaves.  We also spent an hour or so visiting Diane.  We took McDonald's for lunch and just had a nice time visiting.  We need to do this more often.  I miss my sister.

Rachel came and she and Jess had a great couple hours while I went to church for a friend's memorial service.  I think as soon as Jon comes home and finishes up down here I'm going to "close up" and go upstairs for the rest of the night.  I may have gotten an extra hours sleep, but I'm tired.

Saturday

Quite the original title, eh?

Jon worked and since there really wasn't anything pressing to get up for, I slept in.  Jess was busy watching videos and playing on her iPad.  Jess and I went to breakfast, post office, bank, Walgreen's and Meijer's Optical.

While Jess made lists from her magazines, I began to clean the house and do some wash.  Mike came and cut the grass, Debbie did poop-detail and picked up sticks, and Bob and Dorene brought me a birthday present - a refurbished bench for outside that Dorene did herself.  It is beautiful!

Tonight I took Jessie to church.  It is the first time she has been to a church service in over 2 years!  I've been wanting to try Saturday night for several months now but haven't.  It is smaller, quieter and rarely any kids.  We talked about going all day and I promised her a hot fudge sundae from McDonald's if she went.

Tonight was also a special healing service and I took Jessie forward for an emotional healing from her PTSD.  I trust God to heal her of this for His Glory and in His timing.  Right now she's loudly singing along with Cedarmont kids on the iPad.

This Is Saturday, Right?

So many times today I thought it was Saturday.  I was all mixed up.  I guess that's not too unusual.

While Debbie took Jessie to breakfast, Jon had to go to work for a mandatory meeting and I did some paperwork.  When he got home we went to the range and shot for a half hour.  It's been over a month since we were there, and I've missed it.  When we got home, I was able to clean my own gun.  With Jon's guidance, of course.  I'm very proud of myself.  Another accomplishment.  Actually, it's not the cleaning, it's the taking apart and putting the gun back together that's an accomplishment!

Debbie left at 11:00 and Rachel took over for Jessie.  They had a nice time together.  There sure was alot of laughing!  For a change, I made a nice crock pot beef roast dinner.  We haven't had one of those in months.  There was enough for tonight's meal, a meal for Jon this weekend at work and left overs to freeze.

A Busy Thursday

When I left for Bible Study this morning, Jess was still sleeping.  She decided to sleep late today. I'm not looking forward to the time change this Sunday morning.  Who ever instituted that never had animals or children!!!!!  Jon left for breakfast and Christmas shopping - YES, Christmas shopping.  Can you believe it?

My Bible Study's small group gathered for lunch after class.  It was nice visiting with these ladies and getting to know them better.  From there I went to Walgreen's, the Post Office and home.  Jon and I left shortly after and went to Home Depot and then to my doctor's appointment.  He just gave me some anti-spasm pills to try.  If it doesn't help, I'll have to have a colonoscopy.  If it helps, I can wait until I'm due for mine next May.  I prefer waiting.

Jon and I went out for dinner since Debbie and Jessie went bowling. This time was for special needs adults., and there was a girl there that recognized Jessie.  They were in the same class in Middle School!  A long time ago, yet this girl remembered Jessie and called her by name.

I also joined a Home Group tonight and went to my first session.  It only meets once every 2 weeks, so this should be good, and I'm hoping that Jon has the night off.

Happy Halloween

Jessie had a great day.  As I was finishing my water aerobics class, Debbie brought Jess to the Rec Center to go swimming.  They were there for quite awhile then drove through McDonald's for Jess.  I went to Meijer's before I came home and the post office.  The furnace job was completed today!  YAH!

After lunch Jessie made brownies in a pumpkin pan.  As you can see, she likes to lick the batter from the bowl.  Before Debbie left I gave Jess a little Halloween treat bag - a couple small bags of M&M's, a Kit-Kat bar, a bag of Harvest Cheddar chips, a glow stick, a Barney Halloween DVD and a deck of playing cards.  She was happy.
Jon spent his day on the computer doing excell graphs for his finances, and I did more paper work.  I made us a chicken salad for dinner with two Bosco cheese sticks.  You can see Jessie's brownies on the table.  The only problem, they wouldn't come out of the pan.  Oh, well, they tasted just the same as if they came out nice.

A Second Very Blustery Day

I have no idea why we still have power, but I'm certainly not complaining.  We lose power when wind is alot less than it has been the past 2 days.  It is a miracle.  I'll take it and say, "Thank you, Jesus!"

Jessie was occupied by Debbie all day and I was able to work in my bedroom and do paperwork.  I'm very pleased with the amount of work I got done.

This is a picture of Jessie when she took a Veggie Straw from my lunch plate and put her hands on her hips as if to say "So there!"  She sure is a stinker sometimes.  She's doing VERY WELL in losing weight!  She lost another 1.8# this past week.  Yah, Jessie!  Next Tuesday will mark 3 months that we have been eating healthier.  I'll post our total weight loss next week.

The Furnace Saga Continues

Yesterday when the men left, I had heat in half of the house.  The duct work still had to be completed for the "new" part of the house.  When we went upstairs for bed, my bedroom registered 56 degrees!  Now, that was cold.  Out to the shed I went and got our camping electric space heater.  It made a huge difference, even though my bedroom is very large.  So, we faired well.  Alot better than millions of people are in the path of Hurricane Sandy.  My friend, Doreen, and her family have already lost power.  They live in NJ - right in the path of the storm.  I know millions are lifting prayers to Heaven for safety for so many friends and family on the east coast.

Speaking of no power, we had a few brown outs today and I'm surprised with the wind being so strong that we haven't lost power.  We still don't have all the duct work done in the new part.  I'm glad we at least have power.  As Jess would say, "Thank you, Jesus!"

A Quiet Day

Jon went to church and I stayed home because the pain is still there.  At least I have a doctor's appointment in the morning, so we'll see what's up.  Jess watched videos, dvd's, played on her iPad and played with her Apples 2 Apples cards.  I did alot of odds and ends and rested.  Jon split wood with an axe he bought today.  He worked for an hour and a half!  Now that's exercise!
