St. Patrick's Day

Jon went shopping this morning then worked for hours in his garden. Jess took several 2-hour naps during the day and didn't want to do anything. I went to Bible Study then met Jon at Leo's for lunch. Walgreen's and the post office were the only 2 stops after lunch then home.

A year ago or so Joyce game me her Instant Pot that she didn't want. I was excited to have one, yet apprehensive to use it because it would be under pressure. So, it went in the basement. Until today. Jennifer showed me how to use it and we made a corned beef, Brussel sprouts, carrots, onions and potatoes meal for St. Patrick's Day. The only day of the year that I think to make this.

Surprisingly, it was very good and both Jon and Jessie liked it, too. I couldn't use cabbage because I'm allergic to it, but Brussel sprouts I can eat. Go figure.

Right after dinner we were watching a Dr. Oakley program and Jessie began acting like she was sick. She was moaning and I encouraged her to go in the living room with me and I'd hold her. No fever. Tylenol just because. I held her for 45 minutes until she settled down and went to sleep.

About an hour later she popped up and said, "Snack!" then "Better!" She doesn't act sick at all. Guess we'll see what the night holds for her. It's so hard to know exactly what is wrong with her most of the time.

Pain

The other day Jessie was saying over and over "Pain, pain!". Jennifer asked her if she was in pain. Her response? "NOT YET!"

Well, today she WAS in pain. According to Jane, Jess sat down 3 times on the way in to the pool and said her knee hurt her. Just before dinner she started to whine a bit then started to cry. She finally admitted she was in pain and her knee hurt her. She ate part of her dinner then went to sit on the couch. I left the dishes and gave her Tylenol and rubbed in her knee with Deep Blue. Then I held her for about a half hour. Showing her pictures on my phone seemed to take her mind away from the pain for awhile. It's so difficult to know when Jess is in pain because she has a high tolerance for pain. Maybe that's why she's been so crabby the past few days.

I had Bible study this morning. Jon went shopping then spent a couple hours out in his garden preparing for planting. His dad would be so proud of him and his garden.

Out With Jon

After our monthly face time meeting with Jessie's case worker at 10:00, Jon and I left and went to English Gardens. This was one of my mom's favorite places to shop. It's changed over the years and it is a nice place to browse. Then we picked up some produce at Nino Salvaggio's. I haven't been there in years. Jon buys his duck eggs from there when Jennifer's ducks decide to take a break!

It was Jon's choice for lunch and he picked Red Lobster. OK by me! My great tasting lunch stayed within my WW points for the day. I had Brussel sprouts as a vegetable and expected just plain ol' sprouts. Instead, they were soft yet crispy on the outside with a hint of orange teriyaki sauce and tiny pieces of French fried onions on top. They were awesome!

Jessie and Jennifer did a lot of "homework" pages then did a craft before Jess fell asleep again. When we got home, she woke up then she put away the groceries and separated the mail. Unfortunately, she woke up in a very crappy mood. Nothing but hollering and arguing the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. Not a fun time around here, that's for sure. I'm so beyond tired of being yelled at. I wish I knew what sets her off. Besides me, of course.

A Nice Sunday

Jess and I watched church on FB while we ate breakfast. However, Jess fell asleep before it finished. When our church was done I watched Pastor Mick's service. It was really good and powerful. Since Jess was still asleep when Mick's service finished, I also closed my eyes.

I woke to Jessie crying. I listened to what she was watching and she had Pastor Chris speaking at Troy Woodside. I couldn't figure out what was making her cry. When I got up and held her, wiped her tears and tried to calm her down, I asked her why she was sad. "Daddy!", she said. "Jesus, Heaven." "Do you miss Daddy?" I asked, "YES!" She sobbed.

Some may not know that people with Down Syndrome have difficulty with time. So, an event like her Daddy passing away, even though it's been 9 years, can seem like yesterday. She was grieving all over again. It broke my heart. Made me sad, too

Thankfully, after I got her calmed down it was time to go to Marcus Grill and meet Chris for lunch. All 3 of us had great meals and good conversation. Chris went shopping then home and Jess and I came home. I watched a Hallmark movie that was surprisingly good: "Back to Christmas" with Candace Cameron Bure.

Jon got home at 7:45 p.m. after a 12 hours shift. I bought him an omelet for his dinner tonight. Like I said earlier, this was a nice Sunday.

A Very Painful Day For Me

I haven't had a day like I had today. Ever. That I can remember, that is. My bones hurt. My knees, my entire back, my feet. It hurt to walk. To sit. Because I had to go to the post office and took Jessie to Wendy's for a drive thru lunch, I couldn't take any pain medicine until I got home in the afternoon. It helped a little.

Even though I wasn't feeling well, I still did several loads of laundry, finished another pair of Jessie's blue jeans (that makes a total of 5!), did a bit of paperwork and was able to rest a few times.

Jessie has been pretty good all day until 45 minutes ago. Jon went to say goodnight and she came unglued. She was so nasty to him. I said, "Are you in pain?" She responded with a no. Maybe tired. Who knows. She got her iPad taken away.

Asking her about pain just reminded me about a conversation she had with Jennifer yesterday:

Jess:    "Pain!"  "Pain!"

Jen:    "Are you in pain?"

Jess:    "Not yet!"

Jessie's Big Day

Jess got up at 6:45 a.m. this morning. Way too early for me. She played on her iPad for about an hour then got dressed and came into the bedroom and tried to get me up. She was excited about having it "Breakfast Out Day" and she wanted to get it started. I crawled out of bed around 8 then sat in my chair for a bit. Jess laid on top of the bed and the next thing I knew she was sound asleep.

While Jess and Jennifer waited until 10:15 to go to breakfast (Brent and his mom and aide can't get there any earlier), Jon and I went to Romeo Family for breakfast then shopped at Kroger's. By the time I got home my foot hurt so bad I sat down and iced it for awhile. I did this several times today. I also finished another pair of Jessie's pants and finished a book.

After breakfast Jessie and Jennifer, Brent, Tom, Diane and another special needs woman, Roseann, met at the bowling alley. This has now become her Friday routine. She had such a good time and when she got in the van, according to Jennifer, sat down in her seat with a huff and said, "TIRED!"

That reminds me of the other day when I got home from somewhere and Jessie ran to me and wanted my pop, which I didn't have. I told her I didn't get a pop. She turned around, got mad and said, "OH, DARN!" She's just too funny. Sometimes. Tonight she's yelling at me because she wants to go to Wendy's tomorrow. And for some reason she wants my birthday to be now. Not sure why.

One Year Ago Today

Apparently today was the day when the world declared an official Pandemic. Unlike a lot of people, we have managed to do well during this year. Jon had the brunt of its impact by caring for COVID residents at his work. That was a very difficult month for him when it was active. Although he's had to wear all the medical precautions on a daily basis, that month was the worse. I pray it never comes back to his building.

I thought this FB saying was appropriate for now even though some shelves of the grocery store are either running low or empty for certain things. It depends on the day. Nothing like a year ago, that's for sure. That was a bit concerning.

Jessie had speech this morning then we met Jon in Romeo for lunch before he went to work for a staff party. He didn't eat with us because he was having STEAK! He also won a very large bowl. He said it's his new snack bowl!

Joyce helped me figure out what went wrong with the needle and thread on my sewing machine, so when I got home I finished one pair of Jessie's pants and began another to be completed tomorrow.

I also took down snowmen and began bringing up Easter and Spring decorations from the basement. I could only do two trips then had to call it for the day. I sat on the deck, enjoyed the warm day and read.

We ate dinner watching our shows Jon tapes for us. Now he's gone to bed, Jessie's on his iPad and I'm going to go back to my book.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Yesterday, Tuesday, Jessie had her good day with Jane. They went swimming, to McDonald's for a lunch they ate at the "duck park", then shopped at Debby's Dollar. Then they played Apples 2 Apples. This is the exact Tuesday routine.

I've started a Bible Study in my home on Tuesday's from 10-12. We began yesterday with 2 other ladies. At the same time the Merry Maids came and cleaned the house. After everyone left I made lunch and then set up my sewing machine on the deck and began to shorten a pair of jeans for Jessie. About 2 house later I only had one hem 1/4 done! Talk about frustrated! Nothing was going right. I just left it, sat down and called Lois and closed my eyes for about 10 minutes.

Today, Wednesday, was Bible Study for me. It has been an extremely good study on the Feasts of the Bible. One of our ladies has spent hours studying and bringing to us material on each feast. After Bible Study I went to lunch with April. Then I stopped at a Medical Supply place, the post office and home to drop off the packages that were in the mail. Then I went and got the van washed and got gas before coming home to stay. A long but good day.

Jessie took a couple naps, did a few crafts and went outside for a little bit, then she dusted the house.

9 Years Ago Today

Nine years ago in the late afternoon I was working at my computer on a Memorial video for Bill's (up-coming) funeral. Diane was upstairs with Bill. Chris was in the kitchen preparing dinner. Jon was in his room and Jessie and Debbie were in her room. Mom Sutton was where she always was - in her chair in the living room. A little after 5:00 I heard Diane running down the hallway calling for Jon. Bill had stopped breathing. We all ran to the bedroom and were there for his final agonal breath.

I remember this as if it were 9 days ago and not 9 years. I gave him a final kiss and removed his wedding band. I had put it on and I was going to be the only one to take it off.

It was a warm week, just like it was today and predicted to be the rest of this week. It rained the day of his funeral. Bill liked rain. Luckily it had stopped before we went to the cemetery for the final prayer. No one wore coats. It was that nice.

Fast forward 9 years. We 3 are doing very well. We talk about Bill all the time and many days Jessie watches home videos and we see AND hear Bill. Some days I like to watch them. Some days not so much.

God has been SOOO faithful in taking care of us. He has given Jon and I wisdom when we needed it regarding finances and repairs on the house. He has provided people to help me in various ways. But most importantly, He has given me peace and comfort when I needed it. He's always been there for me and I know He will always be.

I'm thankful that I will see Bill one day again. He's alive and well. He's in Heaven with Jesus and waiting for us. When Jessie asks about Daddy and what he's doing, I always tell her that Grandma Jonas is probably chasing him and Jake. Grandma can run now. Jessie laughs when she imagines Grandma chasing her Dad.

I'm thankful for the 28 1/2 years of marriage. I'm thankful for all the memories and especially for all the pictures I have to look at and remind me of what was a good life with Bill. I think of my life in three phases: before Bill, with Bill and after Bill.

See you soon, Willie!

A Busy Sunday

Jess and I watched church on FB. Jon went to look around Bordine's. I baked a cake in anticipation of Diane and Randie stopping over this afternoon to pick up their birthday present. Randie's birthday is in February, Diane's is in March. They got a combined gift this year. They did drop by around 2:30 and stayed until 4:30. We had a nice visit on the deck.

Ten minutes after they left, Chris arrived. I just made hot dogs and mac and cheese for dinner. Nothing fancy but good.

Jessie has been very crabby this afternoon. She had a melt down earlier and is having another one right now because I coughed. This is really getting very, very old. Clearing my throat sets her off, too. We have "worked" on having her not yell or scream at anyone who coughs with little to no success.

Jon's Work Day

While I gave Jessie a bath, cut her fingernails and put nail polish on them, Jon went to Home Depot and bought new boards (and other stuff) to replace some in his garden. Then he began cutting up old wood that has been piled behind the "shed". Just before lunch he came inside, sat down and said: "I need to go to Urgent Care." I said, "WHAT?". That statement made my heart miss a beat! He had stepped on a rusty nail that went right through his shoe and in to his foot. Since his last Tetanus shot was over 10 years ago, he just needed another shot.

Jess took a nap, I did numerous loads of wash, took all the snowman and Christmas ornaments off the deck tree and redecorated it with Easter decorations. Later in the afternoon I had a headache and my back hurt so I TRIED to rest on the couch, but Jessie kept talking to me and wanting me to answer.

After dinner the 3 of us watched our usual taped programs that we like. It's always funny to watch Jessie's reaction to vet surgeries or police captures of "bad boys". I enjoy the time spent with my kids watching tv. I wish I had spent more time with Bill sitting on the couch with him watching his programs. He often asked me to but I was too busy. That is something I do regret.

Another Cousins Day

Jon worked and Jennifer took Jessie to Leo's for breakfast with Brent, Tom and Diane. Then they went bowling, came home for lunch and did quite a bit of homework pages.

Karen, Linda and I went to The Three Cats for lunch in Clawson and then shopped next door at Leon & Lulu's. Two of my favorite places to be. Then we went to the Craft and Antique Mall in Sterling Heights. It's been there for years, and I haven't been there in years.

Darla had a vet appointment at 5:00 and when we were finished I picked up dinner at Leo's. It's so tiring being out all day, shopping and having fun! LOL.

A Blustery Day

Chris left for shopping and Jess and I left for her "speech" class around 10:30. Jessie hollered all the way in to Joyce's and all the way out to the van. Why? Wind. Jessie has a phobia with the wind. She's had this now for several years. Wearing a mask helps a bit, but today was overly windy.

After class we met Chris at Hobby Lobby and we were going to go in and shop, but Jess refused to get out of the van. So, we sat and waited until Chris came out then we went to Red Lobster for lunch. Jessie went in hollering but the desire to get chicken strips over rode her phobia. Maybe I should dangle a chicken strip in front of her and she'll be motivated to go anywhere if she can get the chicken!

Jessie was really good during lunch until a young toddler began to cry then she yelled at her and said, "BAD!" Two strikes for the day. Not too bad, I guess.

Chris sat in the van at Loves with Jessie where I quickly went in looking for a new lift chair. Nothing. Then Jessie decided she wanted to go in the next store ... Ben's Furniture store. I didn't even know it existed and they've been there for 2 years! Nothing there either. Even if I had found something I wanted, it wouldn't be available until May. Or later, thanks to the pandemic.

Jess sat in the van while I picked up my Income Tax that our preparer finished this morning. I'm glad that's over and done with for the year. We finally got home at 3:15 pm. When Jon got home I asked him if he'd mind being on his own for dinner since Jess brought part of her lunch home and I just wanted a wrap and an apple. He's always willing to do that and I'm glad. When Bill and his mom were here I always felt it was my duty (or it was expected of me) to fix a big meal every night. I'm glad I don't always have to do that anymore. I do most nights, but it's OK if I don't. That makes a difference.

Crabby Jessie

While I went to Bible Study, Jennifer and Jessie had a pretty good day. Sort of. Jessie was pretty crabby most of the day. She had the option of going out to the duck park and meeting Brent but didn't want to. Instead she went outside and went swinging. She spent time on the deck again and continued painting wooden Easter eggs. She also took a nap. As soon as I walked in the house in the later afternoon, she started yelling at me for some reason.

After Bible Study I got a sandwich from Wendy's for lunch, stopped at a medical supply store, dropped off stuff at home, and I filled Jessie's van with gas and got it washed. I went to Mr. C's and got in line at 1:40 pm and didn't come out until 2:35 pm! It took 55 minutes. It was very, very busy.

After that I went to Kroger's and picked up some eye medicine they ordered for me, as well as a few other things. The post office was last.

Jon worked 12 hours so I didn't plan on fixing a special dinner. Chris called late in the afternoon and said she was coming over and would bring a pizza. I didn't want to go off my WW points so I made a couple chicken salad wraps instead and Chris and Jessie ate the pizza.

Chris is spending the night. Jon and Jessie went to bed at 8:30 p.m. and Chris and I watched a movie. That was nice for a change. We haven't watched a movie together in a long time.

Now. Wasn't this an exciting day?

Jessie's Writing

Tuesday means ... Jane, swimming, Pita Pit, duck park, Debby's Dollar, home, Apples 2 Apples. That's what I heard for the past several days, as well as every week prior to Tuesdays. Jessie has a lot of fun in the pool and eating lunch out. That makes her day and that's what she did today!

Jon and I took Darla to have a much needed bath at 10:00. Petco, Walgreen's, Kroger's, home and back to pick up Darla is what followed. It wasn't a very good physical day for me. A lot of back pain. I was able to rest for about 45 minutes before Jon and I had to leave for another Income Tax appointment. Jon got his done. However, I still have a form or two missing and I'll have to go back. Bummer! Not my fault though, which is good.

Jessie loves to have paper and pen in her hands whenever she goes out to eat in a restaurant. She draws numerous circles next to one another on each page. Sometimes she'll take a colored pen and go over the darker ones. She's just always done this. Friday when she was at breakfast with Jennifer, this was the conversation ...

Jennifer:    What are you writing in your book, Jessie?

    Jessie:        Jesus.

Jennifer:    Oh, you're writing to Jesus?

    Jessie:        Yah.

    Jennifer:    Are you writing prayers?

    Jessie:        No

Jennifer:    Oh, you're just writing to Jesus.

    Jessie:        Yes!

That's my girl! She has a direct line to Jesus somehow as she "writes". And, she sings praise songs when she sings her "Jesus songs" outside while she swings.

Jessie Has Had Enough Of Being Inside

While Jon and I were out this morning, Jessie told Jennifer she wanted to go out side and sing Jesus songs on her swing. It wasn't too cold, but there was a strong wind. When she got out on her swing she yelled: "COLD!", put up her hood and kept swinging.

When she finished, she came in on the deck and told Jennifer "Stay here.", which meant she wanted to stay on the deck. That was a big unusual because it's hard to get her to go on the deck. Not sure why.

Jessie LOVES her Darla. She's always trying to give her hugs. Usually she puts her arms around her neck and holds on, much to Darla's distress. Much like this picture .....

Saturday and Sunday

Yesterday, Saturday, was a very busy day. I worked around the house for hours and took care of Jessie. Nothing that's worth remembering, that's for sure. Well, weather wise it was beautiful! Sunshiny and it was 72 degrees on our deck. I kept the door open to the house and it was so nice to have some fresh air in the house.

Today, Sunday, was quiet. Jess and I watched church on the iPad during breakfast. Weather-wise it was the opposite of
yesterday. Dark and rainy. After lunch I watched a Hallmark Mystery movie and Jess decided she'd come out and be with me. That didn't last long, as she fell asleep. Darla, too.

Dinner was chicken quesadillas from Marcus Grille. That gave me a nice break in fixing dinner.

Right now Jon is watching his tv and on his iPad. Jessie is watching a Halloween song on YouTube (over and over and over again!) and I'm going to grab my book and read for a bit. I'm so glad that I can tune out noise and concentrate on reading.

First Time In Over 3 Years ...

Jon had off so we went to Leo's for breakfast. I ordered eggs over medium. I haven't eaten them like this in over 3 years! I had tried hard boiled eggs at home and that didn't bother me so today I got brave and ordered them over medium. They tasted SOOOOO good! I missed dipping toast into the gooey egg yolk. Sounds crazy, but oh well. And, to make things better, I didn't have a reaction of any kind. Yahoo!

As we were ready to leave, Jess and Jennifer came in for their breakfast with Brent, Diane and Tom. Then they were going bowling after they ate. Jon and I went home and put finishing touches on our Income Tax records since we had a 1:00 appointment. Well, wouldn't you know it? Our Tax person wasn't able to finish our returns because we didn't bring records of our contributions (they no longer take them). Apparently, it was added back in this year in order to get a bit of money back. Go figure! Back on Monday we go.

After dinner Jon, Jess and I watched a To Catch A Smuggler and a Heartland Docs DVM episodes he taped earlier in the month. It's always fun when we can watch tv together. Jessie gets so animated.

Heather !!!!!

What a day this has been. Jess and I left at 9:30 this morning for 10:00 and 10:30 hair cut appointments. When we finished, I drove through McDonald's to get a quick drive thru lunch that we ate at home with Jon. Less than a half hour after arriving home, Jess and I had to leave for a doctor's appointment. It was down in Troy and took us about 45 minutes to get there. When our yearly office visit was over we left and drove to Jessie's "speech" class. By that time I was soooo tired. I am so blessed to have such a friend that Joyce is to me. While Jessie is working with Joyce, I sit in her office and either read or pray. Today she had a pot of hot water under a tea cozie with a cup and saucer and tea bag ready for me next to the chair I sit in! That fed my soul!

After Jessie's session we picked up Jon and went to the Ocean Breeze for dinner. I knew that I surely wouldn't want to fix dinner tonight so we had planned on going to an early dinner. Upon walking in the door who came to greet us? Our good friend, Heather! She said she had been working there since September, but since they don't open until 3:00, we rarely go there. We try not to eat dinner out since it's a crowded time and that's not good for Jessie. What a blessing to see her and get a huge hug from her and catch up on all that's been happening with her. We first met her in 2009 when she was waitressing at The Garden Grille (same location as the current Ocean Breeze). Even though today was really busy and tiring, God gave me 2 special blessings.

Jessie did very well today also. She's just now making her tired noises so I think we'll start to go upstairs in a few minutes.

54 Degrees

I thought it was uncommonly warm today. A beautiful 54 degrees and sunny for most of the day. However, when I looked at FB this afternoon a friend had posted that her memory of 4 years ago came up and it was 70 degrees in 2017!

I had Bible Study this morning and it was a very good learning time. We are studying the Feasts of the Bible and today's was Pentecost, or the Feast of Weeks. After study four of us went out to lunch and that was a very fun time. We laughed a lot. When I got home I immediately began on Jessie's second pair of blue jeans and shortened the hem. It took me a considerable less amount of time than yesterday, that's for sure. I ordered 3 more pants for her so by the time I finish with them, I'll be a pro.

Jon worked 12 hours on Monday and was given today off so he went out to breakfast and enjoyed his favorite meal: ham and cheese omelet. Then he went to several stores. One was to Weigand's where he purchased bird feed. Why? Because his resident squirrel told him to.

(I sent him this picture the other day. I try to send him a funny once a day when he works. Trying to add some humor to his work days.)

Jessie and Jennifer went to Brent's house for his birthday party. He turned 32 on Monday. Jess had a great time and was very happy when she got home. They had salad and chili dogs for lunch with cupcakes and ice cream for dessert. All Jessie's favorites.

Singer Sewing Machine Day

If you know me, this picture should shock you! Yes. It is a sewing machine and I didn't borrow it. It's mine. Believe it or not.

Last December I took a shirt in to be altered at a local alteration place. All I wanted was to take a couple inches in under the arms so that after my 40# weight loss I could still wear it. They wanted $35.00 for this simple project!!!!! That did it. I bought myself a Traditional Singer Sewing machine and today I spent several hours taking off inches of the hem and hemming a pair of Jessie's pants.

Several hours? Yup. Doing something I really don't like to do and the machine is DECADES newer than the one I used at my Mom's house growing up, I had a lot to review. Several times I got stuck but went on-line and watched a how-to video. That really helped. I completed one pair of Jessie's jeans. The other one I'll wait until tomorrow afternoon to complete.

Last night Jon and I decided that I needed to take Jessie to the doctor today. However, when she woke up, she was happy and she said she was better and didn't sound too bad. So, we didn't go. She's had a good day on her iPad or watching home videos. We went to Panera Bread for their flat bread pizza and ate in Kohl's parking lot. She's still a bit hoarse but not too bad, unless she starts yelling at me then she sounds funny! Like now. She hates the sound of the keyboard.

Sunday and Monday

Jon looked better yesterday, Sunday, and felt better. He recuperated all day on his couch with TV and his iPad. Jessie sounded very hoarse but said she wasn't sick. She certainly didn't act sick either. Jess and I watched church on FB then I began a new book by Robert Whitlow. Nothing else exciting other than Chris came at dinner time and I served a nice beef roast.

Last night Jess had a bad time with pain in her knee. She didn't sleep well. Today, Monday, she was even more hoarse but she wasn't in any pain with her knee. She said she was not sick and Jennifer still came. They painted for quite some time and made Brent a birthday card.

I met Joyce at Bread and Roses for breakfast and we had a nice long visit. Walgreen's, Kohl's and the post office were my only other stops before coming home. I did some paperwork then when it was lunch time I watched a Hallmark movie that was pretty good. Funny, too. Moonlight in Vermont, with Lacey Chabert. She's a really good actress and I enjoy her movies. They are believable.

Jon's Second Shot

Jon received his second shot yesterday morning and by evening wasn't feeling that great. This morning he looked good! However, several hours later he began with a low grade fever, pain and nausea. He's a little better, but not much. Hope he can get a good night's rest and be even better tomorrow!

Jessie has been crabby a good part of the day. Her pimples aren't healing as well as they should, and one under her arm pit is getting worse. Tonight she's sounding hoarse but that could be because she spent a lot of time yelling at me today.

The usual stuff with me. I did have interaction with a person, though. Andrea came and brought back books and I gave her more to read. She's my regular "library" patron!

Thursday and Friday

Yesterday, Thursday, was a busy day. Jess had "speech" then Joyce helped me thread my new sewing machine. If anyone reading this knows me, you will be shocked to read that I have a sewing machine because I don't sew. Threading a needle gives me the "shakes"!  I decided to get one because I took one of my +40 pounds heavier shirts to have under the arms brought in so I could still wear it. The place I took it to wanted $35.00!  Ah, no way! I'll do it myself. I used to sew on my mom's sewing machine umpteen years ago, but nothing in the past 30 plus years!

On the way home, Jess and I had lunch at The Pantry then came home. I'm so tired of eating wraps for lunch at home and an apple for lunch. All I've eaten since last March. I do need to get back in to the WW routine, but not this week.

For dinner I made what the 3 of us really like: baked veggies (sugar snap peas, asparagus, carrots, onions, potatoes, brussels sprouts and sausage with bacon and a bit of maple syrup).

I would have blogged last night but I took Jess up for a bath at 8:00 and she usually comes back downstairs for a bed time snack, but was too scared to come back down the stairs. (She has a vision problem with darkness and stairs.) My night downstairs ended at 8:30 and up stairs I stayed.

Today, Friday, Jon had his second Covid vaccine shot. He doesn't look so good and doesn't feel good. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better.  Since the second shot is supposed to be worse, he shouldn't be better but I've been praying that God would be gracious to him and he not get as sick as he expects. We will see.

I went with Jennifer and Jessie to Leo's for breakfast. Brent, Diane, Tom and another special needs young woman met us, then all of them but me went bowling. I went to the bank, Michael's, Kroger's and the post office before getting home. Then I took Jessie's van to get gas and when I got home I did some snow shoveling. We had about another 2" of snow last night.

I'm tired. I've walked over 7,000 steps today and my feet and back feel like it. I'm ready to go upstairs and call it a day.

Finally! We Got To Go Out !!!

Jennifer wasn't able to come this morning as she wasn't feeling well. Thus, I couldn't go to Bible Study. Jess and I hung out until 1:00 when we left to go to Leo's for lunch. That was SO nice! I enjoyed being out just as much as Jessie did!

From there we went to a doctor's appointment for Jessie's infected "boils" on her back and stomach. She got an antibiotic and different cream. I got gas on the way home, picked up Jessie's antibiotics at Walgreen's, went to the bank and picked up the mail.

It's 8:10 p.m. and Jessie has been talking ALL DAY LONG! Constantly. When we were at the pharmacy at the doctor's office building, the woman behind the counter wondered if Jessie was singing. I said "No, she's talking." And her response: "And you're ignoring her?" To which I responded: "YES!"  Honestly, I felt like smacking the woman, but there was a plastic shield in front of me. If she only knew what it's like to have someone talk constantly. I do listen to her, I just don't always respond.

What Do You Do On A Snow Day?

Well, I start by making Jessie breakfast. Then I make mine. Next I put away clean dishes from the sink and dishwasher and clean up the kitchen from breakfast. Now a load of clothes go in the washer, dryer then fold. Repeat 4 times. Now it's time for lunch. Make lunch, serve lunch, clean up lunch. While we ate lunch the 3 of us watched several vet shows. Jessie occupied herself on her iPad, I took a short nap and Jon rested from being outside and cleaning off the cars and taking the snow off the front bushes so they didn't get bent from the foot of snow we received in 2 days. Time for dinner. Make dinner, serve dinner and clean up the kitchen from dinner. Jon and I watched an Alaska program he tapes weekly then it's time to get Jessie a snack before bedtime. She's watching the Food Network channel and "working" in her magazines. I'm here working on my blog. Jon's going to bed. That's it.

A New Week

Because of the snow we received last night, Jennifer decided not to come today. She lives at least 45 minutes away. That left just Jessie, Jon and me, much to Jessie's delight. I had to go to Walgreen's to pick up a prescription then I met Marilyn at a new restaurant, Bread and Roses, for brunch. I treated her for her birthday. It is a very nice restaurant and I'm looking forward to going back.

After dinner the 3 of us watched To Catch A Smuggler and Heartland Docs, episodes that Jon had previously taped. Jessie is SO funny to watch as she watches these shows. Last week there was a woman named Sarah that smuggled drugs in to the country. While they were questioning her Jessie said, "Bad Sarah!" Tonight on Heartland Docs we watched a goat get his (huge) balls removed. Jessie exclaimed, "OUCH!", then put her hand over her mouth with eyes wide. Way too funny. You might think this is too much, too gross for her, but she's been watching surgeries on her iPad for years! It doesn't seem to phase her much. It's nice that we can sit down as a family and watch good shows that we all like.

Well, I'm signing off. Time to go upstairs because Jessie is already in bed. We are expecting almost 10" of snow tonight through noon tomorrow. We'll see what we actually get when we wake up. The Rec center is already closed tomorrow and I'm sure the schools are, too.

A Super Quiet Sunday

What can I say about a day that I did absolutely nothing productive, other than take care of Jessie's needs and wants. Well, I did spend about 15 minutes gathering paperwork for Income Tax preparation. That's it. Jon worked. Jessie was on her iPad all day. It was a very sunshiny, beautiful day outside and looked warmer than it was. Tonight, tomorrow and Tuesday we're in for some significant snow.

Friday and Saturday

Yesterday, Friday, was such a full day for all of us!

Jon had the day off and had his hair cut then went to a couple stores. He went to Sean and Ashley's house for dinner and had a nice time.

Jessie and Jennifer went to Leo's for their breakfast\-out-day breakfast. They also shopped at The Christmas Tree Store and Jessie bought some Pizza flavored "cheeze-a-balls". Those are her favorites. However, she's not had the pizza flavored ones but she does love pizza.

I picked up Karen in Memphis and Linda in Marysville and we went to the Marine City Fish Co. for lunch. It was a really nice place with great food. I can't wait to go back again!

Just down the street was a "mall" with several little stores in it that we looked around inside. It reminded me of one on Mackinac Island. Then we drove down to Algonac to see the ice jam. It sure was jammed with ice, that's for sure. I've never been there in winter (that I can remember) to see all the ice. We drove back to Marysville to take Linda home after we shopped at a place some-what like Salvation Army. I took Karen home then didn't get to our house until 5:30.  It was a really nice day!

Jon worked 10 hours today (Saturday). I did laundry, vacuumed, straightened up Jessie's toys and crafts then worked on my check book - again. Chris call earlier and asked if we had a Vacancy tonight! We laughed. Whenever she's down in this area and doesn't want to drive home, she spends the night here. It's always a nice time.

I made heart shaped English Muffin BBQ Chicken Pizzas for dinner plus a cherry chocolate chip frozen pie for dessert. Chris was here for dinner and she brought brownies and pumpkin muffins. I'm NEVER going to lose 50 pounds by June. Only 15 pounds to go, but this is taking me longer and is harder than the 35 pounds I've already lost.

Just The 3 Of Us

These blogs are a bit boring. No pictures. Nothing exciting. Oh, well.

Jess had "speech" this morning and when we were finished we picked Jon up at home and went to Chili's for lunch. Both Jess and I brought part of ours home to finish at dinner. Jon felt better today so he took advantage of that and went to a couple of stores. I'm so glad he feels better.

I did a couple loads of wash and a bit of stuff here and there. I'm reading a 3rd book in a trilogy series and I really don't want to do anything else. It's very suspenseful. A good read.

Another Bowling Day

While Jon was at work and I went to Bible Study, Jennifer and Jess met Brent, his mom and aide Tom at the bowling alley for 3 games. Brent and Jessie had a great time once again. Then they went out to lunch before coming home. After Bible Study I went to lunch with Ruth and then went to the post office. Jon looked a tiny bit better than yesterday when he got home from work. At least he has 2 days off to rest.

Swimming Day

Jess had another good day today. Jane took her swimming, Pita Pit for lunch, Debby's Dollar then home to play Apples 2 Apples plus other games. A great day indeed.

The Merry Maids came and cleaned the house this morning. I did several loads of wash then went to Kroger's for some groceries. That about did me in. My left foot hurt and I was exhausted from walking the entire store. I haven't done that in several weeks. I feel like such a wimp.

Jon worked but looked awful when he got home. He's working when he should be home resting. His work ethic is much greater than most people's. Steroids and muscle relaxers haven't done the trick yet.

Sunday and Monday

I didn't even turn on my computer yesterday! Jon had the day off but was in terrible pain from his back. He spent the day on the couch. Jess and I watched church on FB, I read, went out and got a carry out for our lunch, read some more, took a nap, (Jess, too) fixed a light dinner, read more and went to bed. That about wraps up yesterday.

Now today, Monday, was totally different. Jon worked. Jessie and Jennifer did Valentine crafts and book work and I went to Marysville to visit my cousin, Linda. When I got home, Jennifer's daughter, Jennae and the toddler they are taking care of came in the house to look at the books I have for anyone to take. That took up about 45 minutes. While they were there I went to get a glass of pop I had on the counter and tore my finger open on an edge of the kitchen sink that I didn't know existed. Now I know. It's a deep cut and wouldn't stop bleeding. Nurse Jon fixed me up with steri strips and bandaids. We'll see how it is in the morning.

Just after the girls left Jess and I took Jon to the doctor's office. He couldn't see our regular doctor but another associate. Thankfully, it was only 2 miles from our house. Unfortunately, it took him almost an hour to see the dr. Jess played on her iPad and I parked under a parking lot light and read. We picked up his medicine on the way home, as well as a McDonald's drive thru dinner. Not what was planned for our WW dinner, but it was late and we were all starved. Oh, well. I did good the rest of the day.

Another Beautiful Day

The sun shone so brightly it was almost too bright to look outside at the snow! We didn't go out, though. It was pretty cold.

Jessie played on her iPad, took a nap and worked in her sticker Find-It book.

Jon was in terrible shape. He's been in quite a bit of pain in his lower back. He was unable to get out of bed this morning. He had to roll over and land on the floor first. Oh, dear! The poor guy is a wreck!

I finally finished Jessie's checkbook work for the year (Feb 20 to January 21). I don't have to do the annual report I used to but I still have to keep track of every penny she spends. It's all on Excel sheets and thankfully in the basement. I also finished a book that I started a couple days ago. That's about it!

Jessie's Day Out

I was supposed to spend the day with Chris but we had snow last night and the wind was strong. I slept all night in bed last night and my back hurt so I cancelled. What a wimp!

Jennifer still came and took Jessie to Leo's for breakfast with Brent, his mom and Tom, his aide. After they ate they went bowling. Both Brent and Jessie had a GREAT time. They sure love each other! Best friends since elementary school!

I worked on Jessie's checkbook since I was behind by 4 months. I'm still not finished because I took a break this afternoon and had a nap. My eyes were bothering me.

Jon worked 12 hours today and just got home. He is in very bad shape tonight with pain from his RA. I can always tell from his eyes and tonight he's not even moving well. He's on call this weekend, so I pray that no one calls in so he can have a good 2-day break.

Days Go By So Fast

A lot of people might not think that the days go by fast, but I sure do. Jess and I began our day with breakfast then Speech (after a long month-long break while Joyce was in Cuba!). I was planning on coming home for lunch but thought Joyce might like to have lunch with us so we went to Romeo Family for a nice inside-meal. I got gas in the van on the way home and picked up the mail in case we can't get out tomorrow because of the snow that's predicted. The rest of the afternoon went by quickly doing odds and ends and paperwork. Jon worked and looked exhausted when he got home. All 3 of us have achy bones tonight thanks to the weather change. Yuck!

Jessie Is SOOOO Much Happier

There has been a huge difference in Jessie since she's been going out more. She is happier. MUCH happier. Today Jennifer and Jessie met Brent, his mom and aide at Leo's for lunch. Jessie gave Brent multiple smooches on his cheek and when she finished he let out a big woop! He's been happier, too. Jess and Jennifer also shopped at Michael's and bought several more crafts to work on.

I had Bible Study this morning, a quick drive thru lunch then I shopped for necessities at Walmart before I had my thyroid ultra sound. After I got home, I checked my e-mail and it must have been a very slow day at Beaumont because I already had the results. Then after dinner I got a message from my doctor that she saw the results and we'll do a repeat in one year because there wasn't anything significantly different, except for a new nodule in the center of my throat. Maybe that's the reason I always feel like there's something in my throat!

Jon worked and was pretty sore and painful when he got home. He thinks it's because of the storm system heading our way (super cold weather). Today was a BEAUTIFUL, sunshiny day.

Lunch INSIDE A Restaurant

While Jane took Jessie to the Rec Center swimming, to her house to see their new dog, Pita Pit for a carry out lunch with the ducks (who weren't there!) and Debby's Dollar, Jon and I were out for several hours, too. We went to the bank, Walgreen's, the Vet for Darla's meds, Vince and Joes and home to put away the groceries. Lunch was thoroughly enjoyed INSIDE Art and Jake's. (Restaurants were finally able to open to 25% capacity yesterday. The 3 weeks turned into almost 3 months!) It was so good to be back in a restaurant and with other people! From there we went to church for me to look through some books that were donated. I brought 3 boxes home that I will see go to good homes. One must be careful who they give books to. The post office was our last stop of the day.

When we got home the sun was shining, I went out to the deck with the books and ended up reading out there for about an hour. It was so nice! I'm really enjoying our 3-season room that can sometimes be used in the 4th season.

Getting Jessie Out Of The House

As is usual, Jessie was falling asleep during breakfast and doing book work. I suggested to Jennifer that she take her to Debby's Dollar, just to get her out of the house and some fresh air.

Before they could leave, the van needed cleaning off due to our "snow storm" all of about an inch or so. Jess seemed to enjoy doing that job.

They went to Debby's Dollar and it went well except that she was so excited to get out that she was super loud. Everyone noticed and the gals that work there that know her wondered why she was so wound up!

Jessie got a couple crafts and the Hello Kitty flag you see in the picture. They also drove through McDonald's to get a pop. The rest of the afternoon was the "fall out" of her being out of the house. She talked constantly for about 5 hours straight.

Jon had the day off and rested. He wasn't feeling that good.

I did a LARGE amount of paperwork and computer work. I'm very pleased with what I accomplished. Tomorrow Jon and I are going out. Woo Hoo !!!

A Restful Day

After breakfast Jess and I watched church via FB this morning on my iPad. When it was almost done, Jessie fell asleep and slept for about 90 minutes. It was so quiet I decided to just relax and close my eyes, too. I thought it was quiet. I could hear the dog snoring, Jessie breathing, the clock ticking and vehicles on the expressway. Still, it was "quiet".

While I ate lunch I watched a Hallmark Crossword Mystery, and Jess was on her iPad and played with her Apple 2 Apples cards.

Chris came by to drop off walnuts that were on sale at Vince and Joe's for $2.99 a pound! I haven't seen that price in over a year or more. I called Lois when she left and we visited for 20 minutes.

Thanks, Karen!

My cousin, Karen, came this morning and prime painted the newly done ceiling patch. I'm so grateful that it is done. This summer I'll have the entire ceiling repainted, but it's good for now. She did a great job.

Jessie occupied herself, as usual, on her iPad. At one time I heard her snoring but I knew she wasn't on the couch. I found her sitting up sound asleep on the wall/window.

Right now she's driving me absolutely nuts. She's so OCD for her Tuesdays that's all I hear ALL day long. "Tuesday, Jane! Swimming! Pita Pit! Debbie's."  Earlier I had to explain to her AGAIN that Tuesday comes after Sunday and Monday, not Saturday.

It's Finally Friday

This has seemed like the longest week to me. Yesterday felt like Saturday or Sunday. I'm just glad the weekend IS finally here.

Jennifer took Jessie bowling this morning and met Brent, his mom and aide, Tom. They had a great time and Brent was super excited to see Jessie again! Jon did grocery shopping and I continued on redoing my book cases. Unfortunately, it has irritated my right foot that has arthritis and a bone spur on the side. It's really painful tonight.

Wednesday and Thursday's Posts

Wednesday was a busy day. Jennifer was with Jessie and I went to Bible Study, the post office, bank and Walgreen's. There was so much mail that it wouldn't fit in our mailbox so they had to rubber band it and put one yellow slip in my box. Jess had a grand time sorting the mail and opening her (weekly home-made) card from Linda (from church).

Chris called in the afternoon and said she had some free time so she wanted to come visit since she was in the Romeo area anyway. I told her to come for dinner. I made beef stew (left overs from a roast beef dinner plus other veggies) and Red Lobster biscuits.

While we were talking after dinner, I told her she should stay the night. It was cold and dark and she didn't have to be anywhere in the morning so she stayed. That always makes us happy to have company.

This morning, Thursday, we had coffee cake for breakfast, then Chris had an idea for us to go to church and have a tour of the new addition. She called and made the arrangements and the 4 of us (Jon had yesterday and today off) went to Romeo. We showed Chris the new Independent Living building that is being built at Jon's work, she showed us a 30,000 square foot (yes, 30,000 is correct) house that is being built behind Big Red Apple Orchard and we drove by the old Romeo Middle School that is going to be torn down. Then while Chris watched Jessie, Jon and I got a grand tour of the new addition. It reminded me so much of when our past church (currently Stoney Creek Community) built the gymnasium in 2000. We were a huge part of that. When we were finished, we drove through Wendy's to get lunch and we took it up and ate "with the goats." Chris left after we got home and Jon went to Home Depot. I spent the rest of the afternoon rearranging my book cases in the dining room.

After dinner the 3 of us watched 2 episodes of "To Catch A Smuggler" and ate cheese-a-balls (as Jessie calls them!).

Earlier today when Chris and I were talking I showed her this post from FB and we shared about our childhoods. Soooooo much different that today. When we were growing up in Detroit, I don't think my mom ever checked up on us when we were outside. She could have, but I don't remember her ever wondering where we were. We were either in the back yard, visiting neighbors or riding our bikes. I KNOW I never got a popsicle, though!

When we moved to Shelby Twp., it was the same. Diane and Ed would go outside to play and I don't remember Mom checking up on them. Interesting. I wonder what Diane remembers.

Speaking of memories. Forty-three years ago on this date (1978) was the worse day of my life, up to that point. My dad died. Mom and I took dad to the only hospital at that time around here (St. Joe's on 19 Mile Road). We didn't talk on the way there. He sat in the back. I let him out, watched him walk in the ER door, and that was the last time I saw him alive. He passed away just as soon as we got there. He had his first heart attack when he was 40 and passed away at 50.

It was during the great storm of 1978. A Saturday and we couldn't have the funeral until Wednesday of the next week. Diane and Cal were in Hawaii (Navy) and Ed was in California (Marines). It's amazing how something so long ago can still be so fresh in one's mind.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Unfortunately for Jessie, the weather this morning wasn't very good with the prediction to get worse (which it really didn't). Jane came anyway but they didn't go swimming. They spent the day playing games, doing homework and making a "stained glass" hanging picture. At lunch time the weather was better and Jane took Jess to Wendy's in Romeo for a drive thru lunch and they ate with the goats. When they got home they made chocolate chip cookies and played Apples 2 Apples.

I did a whole bunch of this and that and spent time on the phone taking care of a few problems plus 3 loads of wash. It was a very productive day for me. My back wasn't very good today so I did manage to sit down on Jon's couch and watch a Hallmark Mystery Movie he taped for me awhile ago.

Sunday, January 24, 2021

Another Quiet Day

Jess and I watched church on FB this morning then I worked on Brian and Julie's wedding centerpieces. She's coming tomorrow and we will begin assembling the flowers. I'll take a picture when we're all done.

Jess spent the day on, you guessed it ... her iPad. I ordered lunch from Marcus Grill. All 3 of us had chicken quesadillas. Jess took a nap when her iPad was being recharged. I also took a nap. Jon felt much better today but was very tired.

Jon and I watched Christmas With The Chosen, which was excellent. Now we'll have to watch The Chosen, because it was so good. I wasn't interested in watching another series, but after watching the Christmas special, it'll be one that we'll be watching. I'd like to see Jessie watch it, too.

I couldn't resist posting this I saw on FB. It's funny, but not, as Michigan isn't doing a very good job of getting people immunized. I choose not to get the vaccine, as I've had severe reactions to the flu shots years ago. Even if I didn't, I'd still not get it. My choice.

Oh, What A Beautiful Day!

It was a beautiful, sunshiny day. I don't know what the temps were but it was warm enough that I could work out on the deck. I spent several hours on justifying my check book, since I was 4 months behind. I'm caught up now. Next I need to do Jessie's check book.

I also did several loads of wash and took care of "her highness". She was on her iPad for most of the day. She also took a nap and watched home videos. Oh, yes. She also spent a good part of the day yelling at me whenever I cleared my throat or coughed. This is getting old. Very old. Very very old.

Jon didn't feel well at all because of the COVID shot he got yesterday. His arm is very painful and he felt like he had the flu. I hope he's better tomorrow. Randie also got her shot yesterday and wasn't feeling well either.

Breakfast Out Day - Sort Of

I made a phone order and Jennifer picked up our breakfast at Leo's Coney Island this morning. Jessie has been missing her breakfasts out, but this is the best we can do until February 1.

After breakfast I went upstairs and worked on my checkbook then Jessie had an eye doctor appointment to check on the eye that she scratched earlier last year. The outer layer of the cornea (it has 5 layers) did not seal well, so in the morning when she wakes it's scratching and irritating her. We have drops to put in that should help.

I did more paperwork when I got home and when Jennifer left rested my eyes as Jess was on her iPad. Jon had his first COVID shot. All seemed to go well except for a very sore arm. He worked 12 hours today. We saw him for about 5 minutes before he went upstairs to bed.

Thursday, January 21, 2021

A Quiet Day

It was just Jess and me today, as there are no aides on Thursday and Joyce just back from Cuba so no Speech. It took me several hours to straighten up the house and do a load of clothes. Jessie's iPad ran out of battery so she took a nice long nap on the couch. I closed my eyes, too, since it was nice and quiet. The drywaller, Brian, finished up tonight and the tent has been removed. The ceiling looks great. That's about it!

Happy Birthday Darla!

I think part of Jessie's crabbiness is not getting out in public, so after Bible Study today I picked up Jessie and Jennifer and we went to Walgreen's to get some prescriptions and then Panera Bread to get a drive thru lunch. We ate in Kohl's parking lot, Jessie and Jennifer shopped at Petco and then we went to get the mail. She was a bit crabby when we got home, but settled down within a few minutes. She wanted to watch a home video, so she put the one on she wanted and began to watch it. When Jennifer leaves, she gets her iPad, but not tonight. She didn't ask for it until 5:30. She just wanted to watch her home video and look in one of our photo albums. That was a nice change.

Today is Darla's 7th birthday! The reason I took the girls to Petco was to get Darla some special treats for her special day. Jessie didn't want her to have the same treats we usually get and bought a bag of baked peanut butter flavored biscuits instead. At snack time a few minutes ago, Jessie gave her 4 of the treats. They were a hit!

Jessie's GREAT Day With Jane

While Jon and I went to Kroger's, Jane and Jessie played games until it was time to go to the Rec Center for swimming. Once again she had a great time. Lunch was in the van after ordering at Pita Pit, then shopping at Debby's Dollar. When they got home they played games, especially Apples 2 Apples. I had Jane show Jessie the calendar and remind her that there are 7 days in a week and tomorrow will NOT be Tuesday. I sure hope it helps.

Not only did we go to Kroger's, we stopped at AT&T to buy some lightening cords only they didn't have the length I wanted. Instead I purchased an iPhone 12! There was a sale and my "old" phone was paid off. Wow. This is my year for electronics. Yah, me!

Sunday and Monday

I didn't have much to talk about yesterday so I just didn't blog. The highlight was Chris coming for dinner.

Today I would title my blog with: Do You Want To Build A Snowman? And then I would have said: "No, but how about a tent?" The drywaller was to come tonight at 4:30 and he said that we would have to cover everything with plastic. That didn't sound like a good idea to me because there is so much stuff in the dining room. So, Chris and I brainstormed last night and this afternoon I put up a "tent" around the ceiling that needed to be done. It's perfect! Good job, Nan!

I went to the foot doctor this morning and she said that the pain in my foot is due to my back. She said, "Do you have problems with your back?" Seriously? I told her my back was the back of a 120 year old. Arthritis and a bone spur are the latest culprits. Just my luck.

I called this morning and got an appointment at the dermatologist for Jessie this afternoon, as her hydronitisuperotivia is not going away this time after an antibiotic. Jessie has been so crabby the past week that we are all about ready to lose our minds. Two creams and a powder later and I hope it works this time.

Like I said, Jess has been super crabby. It did help that she was able to get in the van and at least go somewhere this afternoon. I should have taken her somewhere this weekend. She definitely needs to get out several times a week. I'm sure the boils under her arm aren't helping her attitude either.

"MMMM. Good Chicken!"

The other day when I went to Vince and Joe's I purchased 5# of boneless, skinless chicken thighs for 99 cents a pound. Tonight I made our "skinny dip" weight watchers coating and baked all the chicken with the coating. Jon purchased a yucca root the other day from Nino Salvaggio's and he cut it up for French fries that I did in the air fryer. We had brussel sprouts for the veggie and baked pears for dessert. Sounds good, doesn't it! While we were eating, Jessie exclaimed twice: "MMMMM. Good chicken!" That blessed my heart.

Jon worked. Jessie was on her iPad when she wasn't hiding upstairs from the men who came to repair the hole in our dining room ceiling. Today was the first of 4 days that they will be here. I can't wait for it to be done. It's going to be a mess around here for awhile.

A Gloomy Day

Unlike yesterday that was so nice, today was dark, wet and chilly. Jon and I went to Sam's Club for a few things and came out with a basket full. We always do that. Then we went to Best Buy and picked up my new laptop and carry bag. We ate Applebee's Chicken Quesadillas in the van before stopping at the post office and heading home.

Jessie played games with Jennifer, worked on a new magnet board she got for Christmas and did numerous pages in one of her workbooks. She seemed to have a good day, although she's been a bit crabby.

There's nothing else to report. I'm going to have a cup of hot tea and wrap up with a blanket because I'm freezing!

Lunch Out (But Not In The Van)

Jess and I had hair appointments at 10:00 to get our hair cut. Jon had gone out earlier to English Gardens and Nino Salvaggio's. When we got home we decided to eat lunch out and I suggested we try Brown Iron Brew House and eat in one of their igloos. I was almost positive that we wouldn't get a reservation, but when we tried on-line, we took the last one for 12:30 p.m.! I was very excited since I've wanted to eat in one for a very long time.

They have 11 igloos available for reservations. There are small space heaters on the table. If the day wasn't so nice (46 degrees) and the sun wasn't shining (which it was), it would have been a bit chilly. A heavy coat and blanket would have been used. However, we didn't even need out coats!

It was the perfect location for lunch for Jessie. Although there were filled igloos, we were in our own bubble and Jess felt very comfortable. No problems at all. She had a tasty lunch of chicken tenders and fries. I had smoked pork, mac n cheese and bbq beans (ohhhh! too spicy for me!). Jon had a brisket sandwich and fries. We really had a very nice time. Jon said that for dinner we would have to have cucumbers and water since we probably ate all our WW points.

When we finished, Jon needed to go to work to register for a test and pick up a gift from the administration. Each employee received a "THANK YOU for all your hard work!" gift of a pork loin, large garlic bread and apple pie! What a nice thing to do for the staff.

We also drove to the Crooked Creek Dairy Farm and store to look around but I didn't find what I was looking for (short ribs).

In all, it has been a very nice day! Thank you, Jesus, for blessing us with good weather, good food and family closeness.

A Slower Paced Day

Since the garage door opener was fixed, I didn't have to be downstairs to let Jennifer in so I stayed in bed longer and then gave Jessie a bath. After breakfast I went a got a much-needed pedicure while Jessie went outside and swung on her swing and listened to her Jesus songs. I was home for lunch after a quick trip to Michael's after the pedicure and we made BBQ bacon pizzas.

Instead of doing paperwork or whatever, I took an hour's nap before coming downstairs when Jennifer left. Then instead of doing something productive, I began reading a new book. I guess I'm just tired of doing stuff.

For dinner tonight we had home-made gyro sandwiches! Yum!

One Thing Right After Another

Our garage door opener on the outside doesn't work in the winter. After a month of not having it work, I finally called yesterday and A1 Garage Door company came out this morning. They said between 8 and 1:00 p.m. However, with my experience with service people, they never come early. Well. Today he did! I received a text at 7:45 to say he was on the way and the serviceman called at 7:55 and said he'd be there in about a half hour. Talk about getting ready in a hurry!

He was here from 8:20 to 9:40 a.m. A new garage door opener outside and reprogrammed "clickers" and a "tune up" on the door. PLUS, it appears that the door is beginning to split so he had to put a metal plate on the door, as well as other parts. It was either that or a new garage door.

At the same time as the service man was finishing up, I had a telehealth appointment with my primary physician to go over the ultrasound on my legs and blood work. All was OK. (I knew that already!) Now I need to go to a foot doctor.

Jane was with Jessie while all this was happening. They played numerous games before they left for swimming at 10:30. I had a half hour to put my feet up before the Merry Maids arrived to clean the house. When they left I went to Vince and Joe's. By the time I got home I could barely walk. While Jane and Jessie played Apples 2 Apples, I iced my foot and when Jane left I took a nap.

Jessie tried to tell me that tomorrow was church so that her next swimming day would only be a couple days away. It's going to be a long week.

There's Always So Much To Do

While Jennifer was with Jessie, I went upstairs and worked on my files. I'm purging files I've not been in for several years and probably never will. I'm ready to put in 2021 receipts, etc. I also went through some of my Bible Studies and books and rearranged a few. I vacuumed with the hand vac around the edges in my bedroom, too. It feels a lot cleaner. Unfortunately, I was on my feet too much and they are hurting tonight!

Jessie did "homework" and took a nap. She made her own lunch and had a pretty good day. Jon worked 12 hours, came home at 7:25 and went up to bed at 8:15.

Apple Juice

When I asked Jessie what she wanted for breakfast she said that she wanted to stay upstairs in her bedroom, watch Pooh and have apple juice for breakfast! (Not in those words, of course.) NEVER in her entire life has she not wanted to eat something for breakfast (lunch or dinner, either!) I asked her several times thinking she'd change her mind. Nope. Just apple juice. I figured she wouldn't starve, so that's all she had.

After I watched church on FB, the 3 of us left and drove to my cousin Karen's home and looked at the progress on the 1860's house that is on the property. It's pretty incredible.

Karen went with us to the Dog House Tavern in Memphis and we ordered lunch, took it to the local park and had a picnic (in the van, of course!). It was a very nice time away from home. The drive there and back was awesome. The trees and bushes and some fields were covered with frost (or what ever you call it). Absolutely beautiful.

I finished a book this afternoon, rested and then Chris visited for awhile. We exchanged Christmas presents then Face Timed with her grandson, Travis. He said, "I'm going to be a big brother!"  How exciting! It was sooo cute! Then he said, "I'm going to have a baby!" And that was even cuter. Congratulations Sean and Ashley. AND, Grandma Chris!

I Forget Too Easily

I was thinking about my blog for tonight and realized that I didn't blog last night! Yesterday, Friday, I called in a Leo's breakfast for Jessie, Jen and me and Jennifer picked it up before coming here. That was nice. We should do that more often.

I left at 10:15 to get the ultra sound done on my legs. I was able to come home, so that means there's no blood clots! That's always a good thing. When I finished I went to JoAnn Fabrics and Barnes and Noble. I ate a McDonald's chicken sandwich in the van on the way home. I also picked up the mail. The parking lot was packed with cars, yet there were only 6 people inside!

Today, Saturday, I had Rachel come and spend the day with Jessie so I could be upstairs and do paperwork. Jess got a Light Board for Christmas and spent time drawing on it. They also played Banana Blast, did homework pages and made peanut butter cookies.

Jon had off and went to several stores this morning and then worked on garden plans for this summer.

At lunch time Rachel took Jessie to Panera Bread and Jess got the flat bread pizza and pop for lunch. I had Rachel let her only eat 3 pieces and bring the other 3 home for dinner, which she really likes to do. From there they went to the duck park and Rachel pushed Jess around in her transport chair. (Jessie has been complaining of her feet hurting her again.)

Speech Day

Jessie was excited to have "Speech" this morning. I enjoyed my hour of quiet time. We picked up Lois when Jess was finished and went to the bank and Panera Bread for a drive-thru flat bread pizza lunch that we ate in Kohl's parking lot. We dropped off Lois and came home where I did some computer work then had a doctor's appointment for Jessie at 2:30 via Zoom.

Jane came at 3 and I left shortly after to go to my doctor's office, although I couldn't see him or the PA or NP that I usually see. My left foot is swollen and there is quite a bit of pain in my foot, too. Actually, the right foot is also swollen, but doesn't hurt. The NP I saw did some blood work and I have an ultrasound on both of my legs tomorrow to rule out blood clots.

I stopped at Best Buy on my way home and purchased another HP printer that does photos. It's just like the one I have that's bit the dust. I also purchased a 17" HP lap top that has a built-in DVD slot. I want to be able to do my own DVD Bible Studies when I get Jess up to bed after 10:00. I get that next Friday.

I was very glad that I had a quick dinner planned for tonight. Vince and Joe's Rotisserie chicken legs, squash that I fixed last night and instant stuffing. Dinner in 15 minutes!

I saw this on FB and couldn't resist posting it, since Jon would love to have chickens. What could be better than a KFC chicken coop?

Out Almost All Day ... Hoorah!

I left for Bible Study at 9:50 a.m. and didn't return until around 2:30 p.m. After Bible Study (we watched the Christmas special from The Chosen, which was really good!) I went to Farm and Home in Romeo to look for a pink Yeti for Jessie (they didn't have one). I drove through McDonald's for lunch and ate in a parking lot near 31 Mile Road, along with several other people that were eating in their cars, too! I had to make 2 trips into the post office to get all my mail, Walgreen's for Jessie's prescriptions and Kroger's for gas for her van. When I got home Alicia came over to see if she could fix my garage door opener that doesn't work in the winter. No luck today. By then Jon was home and I was very tired.

Unfortunately, the storming of the Capital building took my attention for a hour or so instead of resting. I was so upset. We all have a right to our beliefs, but not violence. Those that disrespected our Capital and put so many people's lives in danger today belong to no party.

Jennifer was with Jess today and they painted for a long time, made a sticker-stained glass project, played a game and Jess took a couple hour nap.

This is a boring first-of-the -year blog. I need to take some pictures and liven it up a bit. Maybe tomorrow,.

Tuesday ... Swimming

The day Jessie has been waiting for ALL week! She finally got to go to the pool with Jane and then to Pita Pit for a carry out lunch. She was very excited when Jane arrived and then when they returned home they played numerous games. A good day for Jessie. Well, except for when I cut her toe nails tonight after a bath. She screams bloody murder. In my ear! Of course I'm not hurting her. It's just another sensory issue we've dealt with since she was a toddler. In the summer months I need to close all the windows in case someone hears her screaming. I'm sure it sounds like some is being tortured.

Jon and I went out for a couple hours this morning: Farm Bureau and Kohl's to pay bills, ACE Hardware, Tim Horton's for drinks and Kroger's for grocery shopping. That was tiring. After lunch I began changing over 2020 files to 2021. I hate this job, but the sooner I get it done, the better.

Jennifer's Back !!!

While Jennifer played games and did crafts with Jessie most of the day, Jon and I went to Panera Bread for a drive thru breakfast for me, the bank, ACE Hardware, Kroger's gas for Jon, Walgreen's for prescriptions and the post office for our mail. I took my half of the Christmas tree down then Jessie took her half down. The Christmas tree is now boxed up and in the garage until next November!

Jessie has been soooo crabby this past week and I warned Jennifer this morning when I left. However, when we got home she said she was really good and they had fun together. Go figure. As soon as we got settled, she started getting crabby again. Yup. Just for me. It's really getting on my nerves. She yells at me when I clear my throat, I cough, and I type on the computer. She demands her food NOW. She demands her drinks NOW. She wants to go swimming with Jane NOW. Nothing pleases her. I hope that going out with Jane will help her mood tomorrow.
